Long term client = they like your (team’s) work = steady revenue = partner happy = you get pulled up
That said, you should try to vary your experience to the extent possible while on the client as well as perhaps try getting part time work on other clients to diversify your experience. The downside to being on one client that likes you for years is that you may encounter less adverse situations there than your peers may with more varied clients, leaving you less prepared for those challenges when you eventually have to deal with those on other clients.
Also if you’re tied to only one client - generally there will be a upper limit to growth (unless lucky and very big $$$) and will stall your career. Also you never know if there could be a shakeup (new c-suite who had a bad experience with Pwc and likes working with another firm)
Of course.. it depends on what level
Currently senior consultant in Advisory. Not too thrilled with being at the current client for almost a year now, particularly for the reasons you all mentioned. Since I’ll be up for promotion, debating whether to ask out soon (and possibly piss off the people deciding my promotion) or let things play out
