In the sales side of the industry the real money is in commissions, not in the hourly rate. With 3 years of experience I’d say you’re underpaid. I’d love to have a career conversation. You can book a time at chatwithTony.com
This does seem a little on the low side. Three years with a company only having a $1.50 doesn't sound great and $20 an hour is low for licensed insurance agent altogether
Yikes. Had I not joined this app, I’d never know I was being underpaid.
It’s like that with my new company, but not with my current. I started 5 years ago in customer service at $12 an hour. I went from that to a licensed agent to now a licensed account reconciliation manager at $18. With the new one, they offered a starting salary at max based upon my location. I’ll be making way more as a licensed CSR rep than I do as a manager.
Are you a producing agent?
I work in claims intake call center and starting pay for the center is 19.50. I would say you're a little low
Yeah pretty much this. I started in the call center 4 years ago making 19.53 an hour. 2 promotions to Client Service Manager - Operations later (can’t change it on this site no matter how hard I try lol), I’m now making just over $34 an hour.
I had no idea producers made hourly wages 😂
I do know for operations rep and call center make around 40-45k starting. And then maybe even 50k if you do overtime
Depends on your geo area.
Are you an Account Manager or Producer/Agent?
If the former, and you’re in a mid COLA, then yes you’re underpaid. Should be making at LEAST 55k with 3yrs under your belt.
If the latter, most Produces are structured to be making commission on top of base salary. Focus on Growing your book to increase comm.
Why do people insist on saying it’s based on your location? There are many agencies that do not pay their producers based upon their location.
For some companies, they take into account your location because it may be a higher cost of living city. For example, I live in NYC. Taking a job that makes sense 40-45k would be very little than if I lived in a lower cost of living city.
Also, they may pay more in a city like NYC or SF because they know that individual can join another company and make 2x more after some experience.
This is not necessary focused on sales people.
I agree it’s based on location. I work remote and they went by the closest large city to me, which was Houston if it had been Austin, I would have made 5-6,000 more a year.
If my company has salary ranges based on experience and what the role is. Location (if you’re remote) won’t play a large role if any. So you’ll make the same money whether you live in nowhere, Iowa or New York City. But it’s all about what you want. Do you want to live in a big city and have that apartment, condo, or tiny home where you’re 5-10 min from everything. Or do you want to live somewhere farther out in a suburb or somewhere rural and have a larger house?
I’m biased because I love living on the coast but good choice being closer to Houston. Galveston is charming. It’s got this dual New Orleans and Southwest vibe.
That's very low. Do you have any commission? If none, you should start looking for other opportunities. You are licensed so you'll be able to find a high paying job for sure.
Sounds like your agency owner is take all the commission and giving you peanuts as hourly. That is if you are a producer and producing you should have a big pay increase every year.
