Ik it’s good practice not to put client names in resume, but what about their parent company or venture backer if they’re a portfolio company (like “flagship portco”)

In my opinion, if you demonstrate this degree of bad practice and potential confidentiality breach at your old firm, then your new employer will often (sub)consciously believe that you will do it to them as well thus potentially making you a poor fit and a potential HR risk. Also, typically you should not be hired for the name dropped client you had but rather your skill set, project experience, and degree impact that you had.

Only if the client is a company you’re applying to. Otherwise keep blinded

I know it’s bad practice, but can someone explain why?

I visited a friends that has a 1 year old baby. She asked me if I wanted to get a dog, and then asked me if I wanted to get a plant 😂. Help! Applying to a job and one of the only real requirement is to show how I’m “adept at understanding client needs, and designing and implementing creative solutions”.
