Depends on if you're leaving to switch to another big four or not. Obviously it'll help but it will mostly matter if you're trying to just switch firms. If you're getting out of it all together it doesn't matter.

Audit promoted quickly. More on a tenure basis. And if he's audit, as an associate. He's likely not making all that much. He should wait for the SA and then use that for an additional pay bump when leaving
