Think about how long it would take you to do the work and what your time is worth. What is the opportunity cost (or what income opportunity are you missing while working on this one)? NFL teams can afford to pay you properly.

You can charge $1k/day if you wanted.
However if you’re doing a project fee.. we need more details. I think at the very least $1.5k
From my experience pro sports teams pay much less than one might think. I did a little illustration work for an NFL team (5 years ago) and was paid about $100 per image. In contrast I did some simple Mylar display signs for their arena that paid a couple months rent.
What’s the degree of difficulty of the illustration? For example, how many portraits/likenesses are you on the hook for? And to confirm, you mean a traditional illustration and not a photo-illustration?
Feel free to get in touch, happy to help you figure this out
I would bet they are saying “custom,” but really just want “cool.” Most professional sports teams low ball cost because of their status. You get to say you worked with them is the value, at least in their eyes.
I hope I’m wrong, but I bet they want to pay about $200 per illustration. If that’s the case, consider creating a custom template in photoshop if you can, where you only need to insert new imagery with minor adjustments. The first one takes awhile but the others happen quickly.
Followup on this post and let us know what they really wanted and what they were willing to pay.
Yeah ha, Sounds about right. AD 1 gave me some pricing guidance so I’m hoping they go for it.
When I first saw it, I figured I’d go with $200, but then I was leaning towards $500. Ultimately went with $750 this AM. 🤞 Did a bundle cost for more.
I’ll definitely update with what they say. If they do. 😅 Normally if I say over $200 for a freelance gig, big name clients ghost me while little/personal clients pay me more 🤦♀️
Hey all - to totally forgot to update, but they didn’t go through with it. I think I quoted them like $700-800? And they didn’t necessarily say no, they actually got me to the next person, but then it kinda seemed like they put it on hold indefinitely. Eh! What are you gonna do!?
Funnily enough, I worked with a totally different NFL team for a print project instead - I must have been in some NFL mood boards or something 😅😊
You win some, you lose some! 🙏
