I don’t think it has anything to do with the fact that you are one of us. Tbh. I would be more responsive if anything. But you gotta take into account the recruiting process is lengthy for many companies and it’s honestly draining. So interviewing for so many isn’t really a good time management decision. We want roles that appeal with the description and also pay well with good companies. Simple. Would rather avoid going through 4 rounds just to be back with another underwhelming company.
Good luck OP, I think you've gotten a lot of really interesting insight here
Because so many recruiters reach out on / with some BS (like ghosting, exploitative interview rounds, etc).
It can get exhausting. If you can make the process easier, and find a believable way to promise that, you may find the key.
It’s not about you, it’s about how impersonal and spammy tech recruiters are. If you reach out to a candidate that you really think is a good fit (POC or not) try NOT sending a canned email, and actually mention specifically how the role ties in with their experience.
Anecdotally, I’ve been treated the worse by black women recruiters. I’m a black man, and have been ghosted and most scrutinized by black women recruiter when they reached out to me about the role!
I remember working with a Deloitte recruiter that was a black woman who reached out to me. I made it through her phone screening and 3 additional interviews just to be ghosted. We’re supposed to be sticking together, but it feels like we’re constantly holding each other back.
You’re certainly right, Lauren. It just stung a bit more because she made me jump through so many hoops just to ghost me. I probably took it a little too personally.
I'm looking for a job! Can we connect?
Let’s talk further. What is your occupation or skill set in Engineering?
Honestly, when ANY recruiter reaches out it’s for a job well below my talent. For example, I currently lead a team and constantly get asked to go to another company to be an IC. Just once an offer for a position that reflects my current status or even better — a rung up and let me learn on the job like a typical MWM.
Interesting, it's not the same for me. I get recruited for higher roles all the time
Every recruiter I've dealt with has some kind of greedy aura around them regardless of gender. Either they are some 22 yr old recent graduate reading a script who is completely clueless. OR, its a frat boy aura trying to be buddy buddy. Ghosting and lying are allllll the traits I've exp.
Am looking to exit consulting for a Product Manager role can you help me out with this.
