I’m 20 and been working for a year at Gartner already. Should I stop considering going to college at this point?

No, I would probably tell you it’s worth it to go anyhow and finish it out. Regardless of how I feel about school, there’s been plenty of posts on here talking about not having a degree and being pushed by the firm to go when management/leadership roles come up.

Finish it out, even if part time.

like

I was in a well known MBA program and I had a classmate that had no undergrad

I've seen CPAs that don't have it albeit they were from a different era

Depends what you do at Gartner. Is it a job that normally requires a degree?

Going to be the dissenting voice here and say if you're already on the career track, then you don't need an undergrad degree. At worst you can do it part time or go directly to an MBA later on.

M1 - No, I am an account executive. There’s definitely opportunity to move into a management role (and then VP), sales coach or LE sales (main paths I would want to pursue and got confirmed it’s possible down this track)

No, going to school will allow you to earn more in the short and long run

OP, coming back to this. Really, make your future self a favor and study a degree. Any degree.
If you don’t believe me, look at Linkedin job postings - you won’t find anything beyond internship that doesn’t require a degree.

If you’re thinking about funding a startup, please look at founders statistics (age at founding, prev experience, studies). You will see that the college drop-out who founded Apple is a LITERAL exception and outlier.

You got a job at Gartner without a college degree?

like

Personally I was jk… the fact that you figured it out without a degree just shows you’re smarter then majority of the population. That being said, just go straight for a masters in 4 yrs when your 26… why waste your money on a bachelors…

Where you work doesn’t give us context as to what you would like changed.

What would you like to be doing?

like

College opens doors, proves to employers you can learn how to learn, and honestly you’ll find an interest there. You don’t have to have your future figured out going in.

Here’s the harsh reality -> Unless you open your own shop, the most likely situation, regardless of your intelligence, is you will hit a ceiling. And by the time you’re at that level, you’ll be a bit older and having that drive to want to go back will be MUCH harder.

like

I’d say continue college; most jobs will have the required minimum of needing a bachelors even if you’re already working somewhere. You’re only 1-2 years away from graduating so may as well continue and finish it out!
If the time comes later on and you decide you need a grad degree like MS or MBA, then an undergrad degree is completely required before even applying.

like

Sure, there is social stigma involved. But with undergrad degrees being a minimum requirement at most places nowadays, moving up and getting a higher salary will almost always require you to have an undergrad degree at some point.
I’m assuming you get tuition reimbursement at Gartner, I’d try to take advantage of it.

like

Def keep going to college

You’re still a sapling, and though you finally burst through the ground and see the glorious sun, if you stop growing now, you’ll wither and die in the shade of those 40 year old oak trees

like

If you have any aspirations, you need to keep learning! While higher education is not for everyone, it definitely helps!

like

You don’t need to go to a top college or even an in-person college, just get that bachelors degree. If you’re working full time already, see if you could qualify for tuition reimbursement, biggest hack you could do to lower the cost of your undergrad degree. And sure, you can do it part time (and/or online) if it makes it manageable. But either way, get the degree, it will open so many doors for you.

You are young, you may not be at Gartner forever either by your choice or by their choice, so make every option available to guarantee your future. Major in something business related if that’s what is close to your line of work.

like

Are you saying you are currently attending college and thinking of dropping out or that you haven’t even started college yet?

I haven’t started yet.

How’d you land the job? Family/friend connections?

If those connections run deep, you may not need college… ever.

Then go to college, major in a high need degree. It will make a huge difference in your career.
