What’s the ideal asset portfolio mix at 40? I gave a shot at it, what did I miss?

30% - Investment or rental properties
10% - Brokerage account
10% - Gold or it’s equivalent ETFs

2021 was my first year freelance. Live in Massachusetts and just learned they don’t allow solo 401k deductions on state income tax for freelancers. That is a pretty big hit for me. I thought they’d be more friendly to small biz. Also they’re taxing the Cobra subsidy. I mean I’m all for taxes and no way, I’m not moving to NH but this detail just kinda stung. Going after the little guy.

I hear that you can roll 401k $ into a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA into a Roth IRA. How exactly do I do this “backdoor roth”? I want to make unlimited contributions, not have to quit the firm to do it, and be able to max a Roth IRA with the traditional contribution as well. Somebody know how and can give instructions? I think it’s the coolest thing. Hear it’s by doing post-tax 401k contributions or something.

Recently got a 30k car loan (3%) with 700ish monthly payment. With my savings and dropping 401k contribution to employer match I can pay off in 1 year or should max out 401k and pay off loan normally?

Wondering if I’m putting too much in my 401k, currently @ 85 base per year and hoping to place 40% of my salary for the next 2 months to finish maxing it out. I currently have ~1.5 years expenses and have maxed my IRA and HSA. Should I be hoarding more cash?

Hello consultants— I need some consulting lol.
For anyone who does Roth 401k, let’s say you max the annual contribution ($19,500). Within the Roth 401k, does the contribution itself become taxed ? I.e the contribution of $19,500 becomes ~$12,000 (example) Or, can you pay it off outside the retirement pool —> Where you still have 19,500 in the Roth IRA and let it grow?
