I’m 23, plan on working for 2-4 years and then getting my MBA to either go high level industry or big 3 (if MBA is top tier). Is this still a good plan in today’s industry?

Need to get out of tech consulting haha

Always a good plan ;) Tech and MBB are not going anywhere, mate !

like

A lot of MBB offices recruit experienced hires. While it is significantly harder to break in through this as opposed to an M7, I think it’s a worth a shot. Also, while the industry is changing rapidly (and the work MBB does is also changing), they all still phenomenal firms with excellent pay that serve as excellent spring boards into myriad opportunities.

Great insight. Just want to find a way to work on more interesting projects

Yup sounds like a good plan! Something to note about MBA vs experienced hire - I found MBA really let me “reset” expectations so I was less bound to my past experience or location vs. when I was trying to job search as an experienced hire. In the former case I was able to recruit for the locations I wanted and most roles I wanted vs. the latter where I was limited to roles in certain areas or related to my direct experience.

I would aim to be experienced before getting my MBA then acquire it. Hoping that this made a difference

Try to get to where you want to be without an MBA first. If you can't, then consider if an MBA can tangibly get you there. An MBA is not a silver bullet that will solve all your career problems.

like

Make sure you have a good story to tell that's not just "MBB" for admissions. There are plenty of tech consultants applying to b schools.

like

Definitely

You cannot wrong with this plan given that everything aligns well in the process

like

What’s big 3. Many partners had done just bar tending and relatively unknown devree and no big MBA. In fact if you are highly qualified you will find Big 4 or 3 quite unattractive.

like

In a similar situation. In tech consulting. Is an mba worth it if I likely won’t get m7?

You need to think about what you want to do long term. I’m sure you understand the potential outcomes of successfully completing your plan. Gucci Mane said it best, “You can get lost in the sauce.” There is going to be a day when you ask yourself, “what the fuck am I even doing?” I’m not even sure what I’m recommending here. Obviously, you’re ambitious. Just channel your energy in the real direction you want and things will work out fine. That being said, need to slam the at and go m7. Anything less is a waste of time and money.

Last sentence...meant to say “gmat”

Interested to hear how people learn project management. I have done PRINCE2 exam and read PMP materials, but I find these are too textbook theory based. Real life projects seem to be very different and a lot more complicated. I often do not know what needs to be done unless someone tells me. I believe you can learn these things on the job, but I am keen to expedite this with some books or courses. Are there any resources that are particularly helpful?

Looking for specifically Management Consulting profiles, that have 2+ years of experience in Banking & FS space- solid understanding of operating model, roles& functions in banking space ( some familiarity with job evaluation would be appreciated). The person should have some exposure to Rewards. Ideally, a Mumbai based profile would be excellent; however if willing to relocate to Mumbai, that's fine too. post MBA experience of 3-7 years would be encouraged. Please DM me, if intetested

Big4/ACN consultant -> MBB Consultant/Associate I was wondering if I get promoted to a consultant from an analyst/BA at one of these firms above, can I lateral to MBB as an Associate or Consultant? Or would I need to start over again as AC/BA or get my MBA. I’d much rather get my MBA thru sponsorship and MBBs seem to have a better package for grad school compared to other firms.

Learn to push back on unreasonable requests, provide solutions, and advocate for your client AND the agency (not JUST the client). The amount of weekends I’ve had to work because of incompetent AMs who believe their job function is to say yes to everything😭
