Not saying don’t try to get a job, but I think this is a time where having a gap in your resume is less frowned upon. If I asked about the gap on a resume in an interview and heard the anecdote you mentioned (COVID hiring freezes + baby) my gut reaction is “oh duh makes complete sense, moving on”

Thanks, that’s what I’ve been thinking too, but not sure how it will play out in real life

Will anyone even hire a 28wk preg lady (presumably will be even further along after interview rounds), or if I should just ride it out, take my planned 4 months of “maternity”, and look for a job that starts Jan 2021. Having a lot of anxiety about being out of the workforce for a year, both from a salary perspective and from an employability perspective.

Hopefully you work in a state you’d be eligible to take it immediately...but many don’t allow it. If you’re doing your interviews remotely, I’m not sure I would ever tell them you’re pregnant until you’re hired.

Since interviews are all virtual, you don’t have to disclose that you’re pregnant during the interview process and could disclose after getting an offer. In theory there’s still plenty of time to demonstrate job competency if things happen quickly enough. I’m in a similar situation (30 weeks pregnant) and I just went through a series of “formal” interviews but the whole thing only took about 3 weeks. Disclosed from the start that I’m pregnant because I wasn’t planning on making a transfer before leave but the perfect position came along...so now I will be transferring to the role formally about 4 weeks before I go on maternity leave. Obviously process was expedited given its internal. If I were in your shoes faced with having to find a non-internal role, I would probably just take the time to prepare for the baby, snuggle up with the hubs, perhaps rehearse more of a story to explain the work history gap and take “leave” maybe for even up to a year, assuming that money’s not an issue. This is baby #2 and I really regret not taking more leave with baby #1.

Could you try to get some 1099 gigs?

Where does one find those? Especially in this economy?

I’m seeing a lot of posts where leadership has been committed to making changes, but one thing I’ve noticed no one speaking about is transparency in pay equity. Should I reach back to the recruiter on decision after I started new job? Would that be a red flag or they see i really like their company? I would join that company if everything's equal but had to start on current role since the other company was dragging feet a but on getting resources for the role. They might still be waiting for approvals for the role...should I just wait for them or keep talking? Last time HR did say to check back later.

I’m in Tax and completing the mandatory GAM WBL. Usually, this course it presented at ETU and can be described as three monotone panelists speaking for two hours without any inflection whatsoever. This year, due to COVID, it’s presented as WBL. However, instead of a new and interesting format, it’s just a recording of the same humdrum blithering. Except now, I get to listen to it with my children fighting in the background.
