Do you have any work from home ability? I work from home 3-4 days a week and I see my son all the time. We also have a live in nanny. I think you can make it so you can see your kid(s) more depending on the type of work situation and childcare situation you have. My 21 month old goes to bed at 9 and wakes up at 8. My childcare starts at 8:30 and ends at 6 so I see him at least 30 mins in the morning and 3 hours each night, all the time on the weekend and whenever I have free time during the day that I want to on the days I work from home. I feel like this is a really good balance for me.

Second this. See if you can swing wfh even just 1-2 days a week - makes a difference

Zoom. Or you can opt for the trendy FaceTime, GoogleDuo, and/or video call options on FB and/or IG options

funny

Back in in-office days, I would leave work pre-dinner and then work more after bedtime. Not on big filing days, of course. This was fairly common for others (parents and not) in my office.

Anyone who brags like that may not be that interested in parenting.... So don't let his experience make you anxious. Yes it's tough, but you will see your kid! I try to find a few times a day where I focus solely on them. Usually morning and bedtime. I've definitely snuggled a child to sleep while working on my laptop.

like

You will prioritize getting home to spend time with your baby unlike that dopey guy. Many parents handle the schedule and spend plenty of time parenting. Ignore that guys perspective

I have four kiddos, I see them all the time. Don’t worry. You’ll figure it out. Focus on figuring out what works for you when the time is right and just ignore advice from other ppl. Everyone has something to say. It’s just noise.

like

You will figure it out! I started with my current BL firm with a 1 year old. I sign out at 5:00 every day (have had to break this a handful of times in the last year bc of a deal closing but it is rare) pick up my kiddo and hang with him until his bedtime at 7:30. Then I start working again if I need to. Yes you need childcare but I find this balance great! I was a stay at home mom for a year before returning to work and it was NOT for me. Some weekends I work but that has also been pretty rare so far and my husband gets one on one time with the kiddo when that happens. Don't panic, you will be fine! Congrats!

I was getting my LLM at the time (NYU has a remote part time program) so I technically didn’t have a resume gap. That was my strategy 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t think you would have a problem with a few months… a year might be hard.

Hi Hexaware,
This question is for my brother.
He joined h3xaware as fresher this year and has unknowingly declared medical insurance for parent. As I am already having another medical coverage for them. Is there a way to opt out of the insurance from portal.
It caused a deduction of 2k from his salary and is not required.

Any information on this or process will be really appreciated

Does anyone know if maternity benefits work differently when you are a partner? If so, how? I’m currently on the partner track and may consider having kids in the future when I could be partner so I was wondering how it works. I honestly can’t say that I’ve ever seen a woman at my firm go out on maternity leave while partner before (it usually seems that they have kids before partner or don’t have kids).

I’m turning 30 in a month. My boyfriend and I have talked about getting engaged but I’m not sure when he’ll propose (probably after the pandemic is over when we can go on trips safely). I’m realizing that if he waits until after the pandemic, it’s going to be at least a year until the actual wedding. Then I had always planned on being married for a few years before getting pregnant. I’m having major fertility anxiety. Any advice?

What are you paying for daycare/nanny costs in NYC? My wife and I are expecting our first child last this year and I’m curious if what I’m finding online is accurate.

I can hear my downstairs neighbors fighting about being tired and having to work and take care of their child (3 yr old). They are both WFH but I think the stay at home order is causing some stress. My wife and I (no kids) want to help but don’t know the etiquette...

My maternity leave is up in a month and we have a part time nanny starting when I go back. She’s babysat our oldest before, but this will be a consistent role. 25 hours per week and a W-2 “employee” of ours. This is the first time I’ve done the nanny thing instead of daycare so I feel lost. Do I give sick/vacation days? Do I ask for her to keep track of the baby’s day to day activities? Any advice appreciated!

I'm tired of seeing pictures of kids on LinkedIn along with some trite comment about work-life balance, being thankful for their firm's generous policies, blah blah. I can't stand when people use their kids to get more social media engagement. I know this is nothing new and people do it all the time on Facebook, Instagram, etc., but I find it extra cringe-worthy on LinkedIn. I don't feel like I have the right to make that irreversible choice for my kids.

Just venting: I finally resigned today and told my boss (who has been gaslighting for me for months) that my current job does not allow me to have a good balance with my private life which was a polite way to say that I feel drained. He then asked me if there was any chance, I would accept postponing my departure and stay a bit longer. I know that it means that he did value my work in spite of the way he has been treating me, but it still doesn’t make me feel good.
