8 hours usually isn’t enough for me and I’m not pregnant!
Green smoothies help me get out of slumps when I can’t have coffee. I blend spinach, cucumber, green apple, ginger, lemon, and celery. Good luck! Also, this is temporary. I was exhausted until I was about 15 weeks pregnant, then things started turning around. I’m 23 weeks pregnant now and feel fine.
Thank you!!
It’s temporary! Make sure you’re taking a good prenatal with B12 and iron; if those levels get low, you’re toast. Up to 200 mg of caffeine is considered safe; spread that out through the day. Cinnamon gum/mints/sugar free candy woke me up some in a pinch. Take short walks; moving and a change of environment can be super helpful. If you’re comfortable telling your supervisor, do it. Depends on your relationship, but the knowledge may explain any perceived tiredness and allow a little understanding from them.
As someone else already pointed out, first trimester is the worst. I’m at week 16, and feel great for the most part. I felt like I’d been hit by a truck for weeks 8-10ish... but IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER! And congratulations!
Even if you don’t have a diagnosis, treat it as if you have ADD. Try the Pomodoro method!
The first trimester can be the most exhausting. There might not be much you can do to change that. I doubt that there’s a magic elixir, supplement, or time management technique that would change things significantly, though I’m optimistically following this thread. Accept it as it is. Don’t beat yourself up or think that if only you were more motivated/productive, it would be easier. It’s not an issue of motivation, productivity, or ambition.
I made it through my first trimester by eating a healthy snack every hour—it helps quell and stop the nausea
Complete exhaustion was my only pregnancy symptom during my pregnancy. Thankfully, it was over after the first trimester. Definitely sleep when you can! I would actually fall asleep if I just sat down after 6 pm. Your body just needs the sleep - I don’t think there is much you can do. Just know it will be over soon!
Thank you all! These are all such great suggestions. I’m v lucky to not have had much of any nausea (I def do think the frequent small meals helps with that). Have debated telling work but I’m afraid they’ll give me less work if I do, and since I’m WFH due to COVID they won’t suspect anything. First kid so I wouldn’t show for awhile anyway.
Congratulations! A standing desk helped me and b12 smoothies. It gets better!
Pro
Tea and consider a diffuser. I just ordered one on a recommendation as certain scents like mint can have an energizing effect. Also, a fan and ice water. Keep your head up and congrats!
Just made green tea now ☺️☺️. Thank you!
