I’m 9 days out from a desperately needed week-long vacation. I’m so unbelievably burned out that I can’t focus. I have so much to do before my trip, but I can’t seem to get anything done. You can do anything for 9 days. Keep reminding yourself the loose ends you tie up now will help you completely disconnect during the trip. Keep fighting the good fight. You’re not alone! Could also incentivize yourself with additional vacay planning/daydreaming breaks for every benchmark you meet over the next few days.

Agreed. Think of it like a workout: It sucks right now, but just keep pushing and it’ll be over before you know it. You’ll be SO glad you did it the second it’s over.

Make a list with deadlines. Set small goals for yourself throughout the day so that you can truly relax on your vacation.

I’m not OP but these tips are so helpful for reframing how to be more productive. Thank you!

Leave your computer and take a half hour time-out. Then just focus on what you are working on at the moment and try not to think about how much you need to get done before your vacation. Sometimes the knowledge of the amount of work you have to do stresses you out more than just doing the work and ticking off one thing at a time.

In my personal experience: Lists and headphones. For some reason having those two things get me in the zone and help me to focus on the task at hand.

Yeah, think back to what got you through the big pushes in law school, mine was working from a coffee shop. I was broke, so having to spend money on a latte forced me to be productive so I wouldn’t “waste” the money I spent.

Print out photos of where you are going on your vacation and tape them below your screen. When you feel unmotivated, look at a photo (or just use Google) and give yourself 30 seconds to close your eyes and imagine yourself there. Get that dopamine hit to your brain and keep pushing!!

If you could ask for anything at your firm - what would you ask for? Caveat: something that is a stretch but realistic. Background: There is some current turmoil and I have been identified as someone they want to stay through it and wait for it to get better. We don’t have many females at the top. I don’t qualify for equity based on current metrics but the metrics used have lots of room for improvement and the current metrics could be “ignored” for me potentially. (Cont)

Hi! For people who have started with EY US recently, how long did it take you from signing the offer, completing background check, to transferring H1B visa? I'm supposed to start in mid-Jan and trying to gauge the timeline so I can put in notice with my current company and plan other stuff. Given that holiday is coming and EY immigration seems pretty slow. TIA!
