I’m a 1st year prob 1 teacher & I just found out I’m pregnant (due mid-June). Definitely NOT planned and VERY stressed nervous. It’s hard to be happy right now. Advice on telling my principal, etc?

Contact your Union rep and whomever is in charge of your "sick leave" bank, because you will probably not have enough sick dsys to cover leave. Get your plan together, and then let your principal know. Good administrators will work around the distruption in the classroom, Great administrators will work with you to help everyone (you, your students, parents etc) create an awesome experience.

Congratulations!!! It isn’t the first time that happened to a principal and they will be very supportive. Let them know but also talk with your personnel department to go over how leave works.

If you have what it takes (as a teacher) and your principal is a 21st century school leader, you have nothing to worry about. Be straight forward, honest and professional.

Thanks for the advice!

Actually, you may not have planned this new edition but mid-June is a great due date! You’ll be able to spend your summer vaycay time with them and not lose sick days! 👏🏼🙌🏼 My last child was unplanned and came the middle of December. June is definitely better. My first baby came then. 😊

like

Congratulations! That is wonderful news! I would tell your principal in a very professional manner that you are expecting. A little more detail is needed... what would be your plan for maternity leave?

like

Thank you! I know a baby is a wonderful new addition but he/she definitely was not part of the plan in my first year so I’m still working through that initial stress of worrying about how I’ll be seen and how baby will affect me professionally. Since I’ll be due in June, ideally I could take the whole first semester off but, at least the first term (mid-aug to mid-oct).

Congrats! It happens LOL. Great timing, though :). Very common. It will work out!

Very off-law question: Since having my child I haven’t really worked out hard. Before, after a hard work-out, I noticed my sweat smelled really good. Just had a really challenging work-out and the smell is the same. It’s like Burberry is in my veins or something. This cannot be normal. Is this normal?
I though sweat was to smell bad?

My sister in law and I both got pregnant 1.5 months apart with her being first. I was so excited I couldn’t hold it in and told our families right away on my news. My SIL just told her family at 13 weeks and it drove me nuts that she waited so long. To cap it off, she delivered the news via text. That is so weird to me that in itself bugs me! I hate I’m being so judgmental but I don’t understand why she doesn’t want to celebrate/ think positively!!! I’m like come on girl, let’s celebrate!

Hi There- I’m currently pregnant with twins and was laid off when I was about 7 months into my pregnancy. Since then, I have applied to countless positions, spoken to multiple executive recruiters, and even got as far as the last round of interviews with a company—only to be turned down for “someone with more experience.” This is the 3rd time this is happened to me this year. I have over 10+ years in the healthcare industry, and am looking for a position (continued in comments below)

Welcome to our pre-k inclusive classroom. Even with 8 students, and only face to face for 4 hours, we struggle. We struggle being heard through our masks. We struggle with social distancing. We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.

Hi everyone! :) My husband and I recently moved to Atlanta (midtown) and we were wondering if there are any couples on here who would like to meet and grab some food or drinks? We are 27 and 30 years old and would like to meet some people that we can just kick it with, grill, watch sports, go hiking etc. Even better if you are in a interracial and/or expat-US citizen relationship but don’t have to. Looking forward to meeting you :).
