I’m a 28 y/o associate in a non-IBD FO role in NYC making 110k all in and I feel like I’m lagging behind my peers in my age group... what were you making at 28? Thinking if I should look elsewhere...

Okay so don’t completely match yourself to your peers. IBD roles will always lead by their salary but then again everybody has a different career route. I’m 26 IBD and in UK and make slightly less than 100k all in. I got in late, compare yourself to where you were a year ago, and plan for the next year. Look inside and elsewhere at that. Good luck mate

I am not sure why age is tied to this number, I would think of the career opportunity, I am 35 and I am managing someone who I just hired with total ic 35k more, I got an adjustment but the new person is 3 years older than me and doesn’t have my role. Ic should be looked in conjunction with opportunities

What role?

28. $275k (all-in). NYC. Yes, the $$$ is big in IB but there are often tremendous trade offs.

I work in corp tax but can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life, neither in PA nor in industry. Has anyone had experience successfully transitioning into another non tax role? If so, what role are you in now and any tips on how you were able to get out of your “tax brand”? Im depressed because i dont find joy in my position, but don’t want to risk quitting during this economic situation. I know MBA is an option but the pressure of “M7 or bust” is taking a toll on me.

Talking to a partner in Netherlands who is a Canadian and American expat. The chatter started with Covid and masks but I realized the Dutch people are so well behaved, mindful of their neighbors and understanding of their government. Why is America not like this? Why do we behave so boorish and uncultured in comparison? We can't even wear masks to the store, and the Dutch are back to normal life already.
