I’m a 2nd year analyst, when should I start thinking about a MBA? Specifically top 10 schools

I would suggest starting to study for the GMAT now since you may have some time with no travel. It may even be easier for you since you’re fresh out of school. Start with a practice test and go from there.

In terms of applying the average YOE for most schools is 4-5 yrs so you would apply in your 3rd or 4th year. This will help as you apply to internships and FT jobs.

Good luck! I graduated with my MBA last year.

I have thought about ordering GMAT books and studying, can’t be far off from the SAT/college exams. I do have more study time as well.

How would you suggest rounding off my application?

Start studying now. Get a solid GMAT score. GMAT score will be a huge driver in you getting into schools and scholarships especially if you are a white or Asian / Indian male.

In parallel Identify your recommenders and start connecting with them. Your coach will be one. Who else will that be? Start cultivating those relationships now.

Do you have a story that shows growth and excellence? If not start working on it now.

In 12 months you should have the two sorted out. At the minimum a 720+ GMAT score should be in the bad. Spend money on classes if you have to. This will pay off big in the long term if you can get scholarship money.

What about studying and application prep?

Do really well on the gmat, you can see schools average scores, and work on developing a convincing story. Questions your story should answer.
Why am MBA, why now, and why “insert school”, what will you do once your done.

Agreed with SC1. 3-4 years of work experience is definitely a plus for post-MBA opptys.

Is it worth going to non top 10 schools? Everything I’ve read has said the ROI isn’t great if you don’t go to a top one (especially m7) - does that track for the people who have actually gone through an MBA?

I finished mine at a top 15 and my total comp went from 115 to 220. The cost of the program was ~120K. So the ROI is there but there are obvious inputs that you have to shape. You will have better opportunities the higher ranked your school. For instance Bain and BCG recruited at my school but the McKinsey presence wasn’t really there. You will also likely have better prep resources.

I'm at a career juncture and have decided on a career in anti-money laundering as my new path. I'm also highly interested in additional education to further my career and am eyeing graduate school. Which is best? A law degree or a master's in international relations? Those are where my interests lie. I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!

So I’ve been with FAANG for 5 years (I’m 30 y/o). I’m pretty comfortable with my situation. Got average grades at a good undergrad university, total comp ~300k. I’m debating Ivy League MBA. I don’t think it’ll benefit me at FAANG, but I’d like to start a company eventually. Worth it?

Help desired from anyone who made the switch into tech for product management or product marketing management:

Currently an Account Manager/Project Manager at PR Comms agency (1yr) and want to make the switch back to tech.

I have sales (both tech + retail), marketing, social media and account management experience (5 yrs total additional exp). I’m finding I’ll need a PMP or a Product Management cert to “have more experience” to get back in.

Any advice from those who got into tech for PM/PMM?

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's ALM in Management. They both have the same requirements (generally speaking) including a capstone course that serves as a field immersion course with the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?
