I'm a director and I still take notes for every meeting! It helps me remember what the meeting was about.
Same here. My memory is shot.
Honestly taking good notes is a huge skill and is a great foundation for your career. I had a director I’ll never forget at my old firm (guy is like 35) who somehow managed to capture every key point of client conversations, while being the active voice in the room and making eye contact. It was super impressive
Meeting notes: the most powerful tool in your consulting toolkit. It’s crucial to take proper meeting notes. Without notes the meeting didn’t happen.. there is no proof. With notes you can make sure it goes your way. You can cover your ass and get what you need from the other stakeholders in the room. It’s important for more junior folks in the room to take notes, so they can develop that skill.
Agree with C1. It happens, it’s not the worst thing. If I hadn’t spent the time taking meeting minutes, I wouldn’t be able to facilitate and capture key points and AIs so seamlessly. I still get annoyed that my PM can’t schedule a meeting or take notes tho- just know you’re not alone and it’s part of the process.
I’ve had to take meeting notes for about 70 meetings for my past (first ever) project. That sounds awful, and at times it was, but I would not have reached the understanding I needed to succeed without doing so. IMO excellent way to add value when you know literally nothing coming out of school
This! Having to focus on the presentation(s) & dialogue as I typed minutes made me understand so much faster than a passive audience member.
Been taking notes everyday for a week long workshop with the client, so I feel 🙃 Got compliments on my meeting minutes tho!!
I always scrub my notes and ensure I don’t just “fill up the page.” I tend to type everything down, so before sending it off, I do a mental review of the meeting and only leave the key highlights.
I do that as a second year SC, i know it sucks
Oof
SM here, I take my own notes for every meeting still. Even with some quick informal chitchat with Partners
Are you the most junior?
In that case: normal
There's also three other consultants on the project....but I'm the one taking notes 😩
It could be a good thing! Maybe project leadership trusts you the most
