In case you don’t realize, when people write “Indian / Western”, this does NOT mean “country and western”...
I mean if it was my wedding it would make me smile if someone accidentally showed up in wranglers, boots and a cowboy hat.
If it's during the same day, then it's probably just some smaller functions around the wedding, maybe a cocktail, and then a reception. A sari can be challenging to wear, and you'll probably need someone to help you drape it. If you want to wear Indian, then a couple of other easier options are a lengha (long floor-length skirt and top/blouse) - or a salwar kameez (long top with pants). There are many different styles, with "Anarkali" being a popular one. You can Google these to get some ideas. You can also check out a local Indian clothing store - they'll help you. But if you're more comfortable in a dress, that's totally fine too! I'd recommend something that's at least knee-length and not strapless - and something colorful - avoid all white or all black. Also, most Indian brides wear red, so we usually avoid red too (at least for Indian outfits). Hope that helps!
This is very helpful, thank you so much!!

Saris are traditional but so are western styles. If you're not sure or you're not close to the people there, go conservative western style. Better to err on caution than make it seem like cultural appropriation

Dude, please. There is literally no one I know, and I know plenty Indians, who would even think about cultural appropriation as a real thing or offense.
Usually they have 3 events: Sangeet/Mehndi- basically dancing and drinks, so you can go western/ Indian . 2. Actually wedding- can wear a kurti or saree. 3. Reception ( After party) - again western should work. Hope this helps
If same day, then just go Kurti or Saree. It should work
Don’t be too intimidated by the clothes.. Indian weddings are a ton of fun
For clarification, what do you all mean by Western styles? Just a floor-length dress?
Yes
