I wear my hijab for Allah, not for your approval or meet your “standards”. Guidance is one thing, but there really are bigger issues out there. This is really discouraging for people who want to be more involved in the Muslim community and Masjid.
Or climate change or genocide are the threats to the Muslim ummah, but rather how women dress. Time and time again, I get unsolicited advice on what hijab really is. For everyone who claims hijab empowers women, I am too often reduced to what their perception of a hijabi. There is no liberation in covering your body or uncovering it, it’s the choice of being able to do both by your will. For everyone who claims modesty brings you respect, why would I want someone’s respect who is so easily influenced by what my outfit of the day is.
Very interesting thought, thanks for sharing it! Male finish here: while I never had the perception you have just described I def saw it in a lot of people from the community. Absolutely agree that we have more pressing and significant issues to think about. As long as a person is modest in the clothes (for both m and f) I don’t see the issue at all - which might not be a popular opinion unfortunately.
It works for me mate. I agree with you.
As for OPs response, people will have there opinions and in this case they are clearly short sighted. I wish it could be easy as changing their misinterpreted mind set, but it just is not.
All we can do is act, deliver and guide our selves. Hopefully others will follow.
LOLing at climate change.
