I’m a homegrown 4th year in a transactional group and I realized I only have a couple partners who give me all my work (out of about 10 in my group firmwide). I don’t have the bandwidth to seek work from the other partners. Am I dead ended here?

Are you busy enough with that work? This seems pretty normal

Try and get a sense of how which partners have the best work / power and whether you’re working for any of them. Ultimately, if you want to make partner, you’re going to need a few sponsors, so arguably aligning yourself with a select few that have the power to push for you is better than being the property of the masses but not doing enough work for any one partner. If you don’t want to make partner then I don’t see the problem - you’re keeping busy so it’s all good.

Am I paranoid? I feel like my colleague is constantly asking me misleading questions via teams to report to the partner about me? In general, I just feel like they’re always watching me to report me for whatever reason. I also find that they don’t respect my personal space or boundaries at work. Sometimes I just want to have lunch by myself or not go to some work events to catch up on my high priority emails/tasks and they would continuously ask me again as I if i would change me response.

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

It's not my policy guys, it's the company. I tell people I would get fired if I didn't do this and they never believe me

Thoughts on asking for a new manager?

So my current CD kinda doesn't give any direction. They look at what I've done and change like one word. Maybe I'm an acd and I don't need much oversight? They also ask me to help lighten their load but never know what needs to be done and tell me to ask the account or design team. I just don't think they are super interested in working any more. 1 junior and a mid level already asked to leave this team. I don't wanna cause trouble or get them (or me) fired

I have moderate-conservative views. My team, 6 other people, are all very left-leaning. Politics isn't usually discussed outright, but the liberal views frequently seep into our meetings. It's uncomfortable for me; I can't chime in when they talk about media, covid, news, etc. because I don't agree with their snuck premises. I get along with all of them and I don't think they realize I'm basically a closet conservative. Anyone else feel like a total outsider on their team?

I admit, as a fifth year big law associate it has taken me way too long to find a good memory devise for whether Supra or infra means “see above” or “see below.” But I found it and now I’ll share it with my other Latin-vocabulary-challenged fishies.

“Supra” has the word “up” in it. As in: see up! Boom. Done. You’re welcome.

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.
