I’m a junior associate in a corporate group with partners that work in several different industries. I’ve gotten work from every partner in the group. Any advice on how to approach specializing or should I not be concerned with that so early?

Dont worry re industries. Focus on your skills.

I would try to get as broad experience as possible, rather than specializing.

Don’t care

Curious to know people’s planning systems. I’m a paper planner at heart, but in this practice, there’s so many tasks and sub tasks for each client matter and each task may be in various points of completion (to do, waiting on, in process, etc.). I’ve toyed with excel sheets, word docs, paper planning, Trello, Notion, etc. and nothing seems to ‘stick.’ Thank you!

GMAT. Those with ADHD. I feel I can study better on meds, but I perform better when I’m off then during the exam. I’m stuck in a catch-22 of if I should: 1) use stims throughout 2) wean off stims a few days before exam. Anyone else with similar experiences?

Seeking advice. Came into consulting late, after 8 YOE in federal gov. Hired on as a consultant despite exp, and spent last ~4 years in investigations/risk, first at fairly well-known mid-tier firm then a boutique. Twice promoted in that time, so now senior associate/director-level making ~150k TC. Others at my level are abt the same age, so I am almost ‘caught up’. Problem is I dislike the work, feel v burnt out & underpaid. Has anyone successfully exited this space? If so, how and to where? 🙏🏽

Hi Folks,
Hope you are doing well, I need valuable suggestion on few of my queries.
I had joined
KPMG(KGS) on April 2022, during the interview i have been told that i would be working on Java Backend Development as my background belongs to same technology and my interview was also happened on Java/Spring/Microservices; but they put me on Low-Code / No code Platform and its totally tool based work. I am frustrated with the current work as i didnt find anything productive to learn.Continued in com KPMG @

Reposting from litigation bowl. Question about patent term extension. Let's say the patent covers i) product A and ii) A in combination with B. PTE is granted based on the combination of A and B. This is the first marketing approval of A. Would the extended patent cover someone using combination A and C? I don't think so but would love to have input.

Is it the same answer if someone else was using A, B, and C?

Best resources for a very green corporate transactions junior associate to get up to speed?

I just made a switch from a boutique litigation firm to a mid-sized corporate transactions practice. It’s been about 3 months, and I’m simply not meeting the partner’s (understandably high) standards. I love the work, and want to keep doing this, but need to start delivering better work product faster, I just don’t know what I don’t know.

Any tips for pivoting into a corporate in-house department from litigation? I am not happy in my civil litigation role and have always wanted to be in an in-house setting instead focusing on transactional work. I can’t seem to break out of litigation without having many more years of experience (currently in my second year of practice for reference).

My wife and I are considering relocating to a new city. I’ve been working with a recruiter who (I thought) gave me a good lay of the land. Which firms to meet with re lateral opportunities, which to avoid, etc. I’ve since spoken with a friend who has connections at other firms that could be a better fit. Do I bring in my recruiter or reach out through connections? Is using a recruiter beneficial to me, or am I better off on my own? How does their fee play in to what I could get as a package?

How does everyone network/find clients? I’m a third year associate in Fort Lauderdale working at a small firm doing M&A and general corporate work. I need some legal advice in my grievance letter. I have just paid £390 for a 16 min conversation with a solicitor and he now tells me reviewing the letter is an extra fee. Lien search help. I work at a regional firm, and only one paralegal is available. This paralegal started yesterday …. I essentially have to coordinate with the lien search rep to order lien searches. When an entity is incorporated in DE but the PPB is in a different state, what searches need to be conducted and where? Would we need bankruptcy and federal judgments and lawsuits in DE?

Any tips on how to get into Corporate Law? If associates at my firm are 150-200k range and junior partners at my firm are in the 250k range (mid law, less hours 1800, lower rates 250-650), how much do you think the 45 or so equity partners make a year? We have about 150 lawyers 80 ish million top line in revenue in 2021. I just want to know what the prize for sticking around here a decade to make equity would be. I am afraid to ask but I think I heard someone say 300k-1m dollars once a couple years ago. Thanks all!

Fish- how do you deal with negotiating with a non-lawyer? I'm finding my client's customers gate keep access to their attorneys and as a result I often find myself negotiating with someone who....how do I put this nicely.....doesn't understand basic contracting or legal principles. What's a nice way of saying "hey it's clear you don't know what you're doing, can you please get your lawyer involved?"

Attorneys: why did you get into transactional law and how much rather would you do investment banking with an econ degree and good career prospects.
