I’m a junior creative and my ideas are getting rolled over even though I swear they always have more potential than any other project we end up going with, what can I do?

I’m not there, so forgive me if my suggestions are things you already do. But make sure that you’re selling your work using the language from the brief. You want to win over strategy and account, by making them feel like their needs (the client’s needs) are heard.

If the brief is about “5x faster”, your presentation starts with “Going back to the brief, we wanted to make sure everything we’re going to show you hits on FASTER. We found different ways of expressing ‘fast’ and here’s idea #1...”

Bigger than our dreams of creative potential, there’s a room full of people who want to satisfy a client (and the client wants to satisfy their boss), so make sure you’re selling your work in such a way that puts people at ease. Creative is a part of the job, but selling is a huge part too. If your work isn’t selling internally, it could be that it’s good, but you’re not selling it well. Or that it’s not particularly good because although it may have potential, people in your agency don’t see how they could sell it to their client and promise that it meets the client’s goals. None of this means watering down your creative...it means putting more thought into how your conversations go.

Saving this response, really good point thanks!

Get better. Your ideas probably aren’t that good. When they start stealing your ideas—that’s when you know you’ve made it.

like

Exactly. When they steal & present it as their own - l learned that as a junior.

What CW1 said - make the client feel smart for buying your idea.

On a different note - the work that sells isn’t always the best work. You may be presenting work that pushes the client out of their comfort zone and they’re not ready to do that stuff yet. If that’s the case, keep fighting the good fight.

Newbie fish here, question for the BCG folks. I am currently in the process for a knowledge analyst position, specialized in an industry I really like. I enjoy the fact that they have a client-facing track, and you act as sort of a bridge between research insights and cases. Do you confirm this is the case? Or it's more fuss and it's a B-role of just supporting without critical tasks? I understand BCG should have higher consideration of KTs compared to the others.

We bought a condo in Jan this year. Neither the seller nor the management company disclosed an ongoing project to reinforce balconies (approx. 30k cost to us). Was on a call yesterday with a client stakeholder who was relentless and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Telling someone no and not being able to tell them what they want is rough. I communicated clearly what the situation is and my main client - also on the call - understood. I know if someone loses their mind and throws a fit that’s on them and I should move forward, but that soured me and I’ve been in a funk since then. I wonder, is this a sign to find something else? What were signs for you?
