I had the same thought process as you at my current agency but as time went on, I’ve grown into many different unexpected roles within the analytics department that continued to advance my career after 5 years. At this point, I’m waiting until I no longer feel challenged in my role or I don’t see opportunity for growth anymore when I will decide to leave. This works for me, although I know that if I bounced around companies, I would likely be paid more at this point - but I’m ok with it because I’m satisfied in my job and recognize the grass isn’t always greener.
How long have you been a junior, and how long does it take to become an analyst? Not at R/GA so unfamiliar with the path. What does your compensation look like now, and what would it be at analyst and manager levels?
You do you. 4 months is a nice, aggressive evaluation of your skill set so I'd say you're too aggressive in looking for a evaluation of your role at this point, tbh. 10% is low for a jump in title but about par if you stay with the same company. Leaving a company, I'd look for 25%-50%, but after a year or two of experience. It's been a while since I've been at your level so ymmv.
Ill be honest i was not loyal in my career start but do what feels right to you. Seems like they think you're a good analyst.
I don't know which industry you work in currently. If you love any programming language and want to work on it more, I don't think analytics in agencies would be a good path. They won't compensate you enough for that skill. Most of the work in agencies has to do with reporting which I find pretty basic and if you do use any programming language, it won't be for any complicated models. If you don't want the advanced level analytics stuff you can search for manager roles at agencies. You can always jump ships for higher pay. If you want the the advanced level stuff , agency is not the place to be. In-house opportunities or tech companies would be better places. If you are currently in non-technical role, I think it's easier to get technical role where you work currently. Once you have the title you can move to other places.
