I understand your feeling about attitude and disrespect. However, please hear this with sincerity and not disrespect, your statement is about physical size and being a man = respect. The teachers who command the most respect are teachers who earn it from their students through relationships, caring, and empathy. Please think more about the relationships you are building and the classroom atmosphere you are creating and the respect will be earned. You are very spot on that respect is not instilled in children the way it used to be, but that is a common generational cycle.
They are invincible at that age. Their hormones do most of their talking. Once you earn their respect, they will do anything for you. Relationships are so important.
There is also a significant amount of disrespect in our society today, much of it propagated by the adults. I don’t know how we can turn that around when it’s what the kids see all around them
I don’t think size is an issue! I think it’s is the way the students are being brought up today! They don’t realize that questioning authority is sometimes disrespectful as they are not taught HOW to go about it!
I had a student call me a fat ass today. I'm sorry that they are rude, but know that relationships are important!
I am 52 and in my 6th year of teaching special education and my students make fun of my Kentucky accent, clothes, hair and anything they can. Kids are rude and 🏫 do not have discipline.
