I'm a senior manager and so often get heads up from the clients on confidential info. If they ask it remains confidential I tell the partner and that's it until anyone else needs to know. Wont even tell my managers. Nothing personal and def not a reflection of my trust in them or how much I value their work. It's just how need to know works. So I think you shouldn't take it personally. Now if the other seniors knew or staff and you didnt. Then you have a good case to be upset

Agree with this. I would add (and maybe this doesn’t apply on the assurance side) that frankly sometimes I’m so overwhelmed with work and client demands and juggling so many things that I wouldn’t have had a chance to sit down and give a client update with the senior as quickly as I may have been briefed about it. It’s definitely nothing personal. I think sometimes the associates and seniors don’t realize how much is on our plate with coaching/billing/admin/selling so it may feel like you’ve been deliberately left out when really, telling you is on our to do list it’s just a long list every single day.

I feel this needs more context before anyone can opine in a useful way.

I feel betrayed/hurt that I wasnt told, especially for things that would impact my career (only found out when another manager felt I should know and mentioned it to me). I've been senior on the client for two years and basically ran the audit. I feel like I earned my place to know and be involved in these conversations. Is it wrong to feel that way? I've kind of checked out because I feel that even after everything, they didnt have the decency to tell me.

Informational assymmetries and private allegiances are always present - even if you don't see them. Your coworkers are racing to get ahead of you. No matter how nice they might seem, this is the game. (Not saying it's ethical, but you should know.)

Are these things that were done in the audit or just like general things that are going on at the client?

Okay so I agree with SM below. Sometimes the client is worried about employees finding things out or for w/e reason they request only certain ppl know. I would try not to be too hurt by this.

Sometimes the innocent are left out. Not trying to make you feel otherwise but I have seen teams not get full updates before.
