Why do you need to tell them now? I’m being monitored for complications and still didn’t tell until 18 weeks. If you’re not having complications, I’d wait until you’re showing (if traveling) or at least 20 weeks otherwise. Also, are you defining EOY by calendar year or something else? If you’re due late January, then you’ll likely be around until mid-Jan barring any complications. Lastly, I tell you what my doctor and her nurse always remind me of (since I’m on a very male dominated team)-you have a right to be pregnant!

That’s tough. I dealt with a blabbing MIL myself. I’m fortunate that her personal network doesn’t overlap with my professional network. So, I feel you. Only you can answer what’s right for you (in general, but especially given your context), but if you tell now, then yes, I’d expect them to start taking all of your good clients; etc. away. Although, I will say in my experience (no longer in consulting, now at an F100), my team has been too busy to take any of my stuff away-they still haven’t even given feedback on my proposed coverage plan yet 😂😂😂 So you never know.

Are they good and supportive people normally? If so, don’t stress- they will be happy for you!! Perhaps they are also juggling family and work and can even relate a bit. Definitely don’t feel guilty - kids are a normal part of life and something any experienced boss has navigated before (as far as needing to consider how to staff clients while a key person is on leave). Congrats! If your teams can’t be supportive about something like this, you have a bigger problem here!

Going through the same so you’re not alone! If possible, hold off on telling both your work and your MIL til you’re showing. Don’t feel guilty! You have a right to be happy about your pregnancy. Are you afraid the client won’t take you back or your mgmt will allocate the client to someone else? When disclosing to your team, come with a plan to discuss coverage while you’re on mat leave and your expectations upon return of having clients back. After telling your team, let your clients know the same and your return date plan.

Congrats! You can’t plan these things and your supervisors should be excited for you regardless of timing. It is hard being out in the traditional busy season, but keeping a long term team member is much more important. I had #3 and missed most of Q1. I felt that it was probably reflected in my bonus (seems fair), but everyone was very a supportive! You shouldn’t feel guilty, and you should feel free to share whenever you’re ready. Good luck!

It’s a horrible culture when you feel like this for living your life!!! Congratulations and be happy not fearful!

I work in PA on the financial side, but I’m at a better firm now just worry history would repeat itself

Congrats! I am also due late Jan. I’ve struggled really badly with nausea and low energy. I had to tell them because I needed their patience given I was head in the bucket several times a day and simply unable to do overtime. I think confide in 1-3 people you know will support you. The good ones. I told some additional people and regret it...usually men. They took the view I was making excuses.

So my counselor requested I set up some meetings to "put together a maternity transition plan (if any)" Just had the first one, a month and a half out from my Mat, and while I was expecting some kind of supportive "Hey let's get everything prepped for you to go!", it was just him going "Oh you've discussed the plan with your team & have a meeting to formalize it next week? What does that mean? You don't have anything written down!? Well that's not enough" Feeling very uncomfy after it.
