I know plenty of millennials who are great hardworking people. I hope you get to meet them
Ogilvy 1 - it’s not that they don’t work hard. Most of them do. It’s that they seem incapable of “playing the game” even when I explain to them how doing so will help their careers. Working kindly with others. Being empathetic. Not taking things personally. Being quiet and listening. Some of them are brilliant, but they seem incapable of gaining the level of “grown up” that allows you to tackle larger and more complex accounts and problems. I find it truly disheartening and sad, as well as occasionally infuriating.
I find the hand-holding more annoying. Everything needs to be taught. Most seem incapable of figuring out anything on their own.
Yep...
I always considered myself a gen x-er at heart.
I keep seeing this exact same post and wondering where you guys are working. All the millennials I've worked with, across industries, have been amazing, targeted, smart, and incredibly hard working. The only problem is that they are quick to see problems in the system and rather than sit back and shut up like the older people, millennials want to change things for the better and get frustrated when others don't care. And to me, that's a problem for everyone else, not millennials.
You are fortunate to have the opportunity to realize that :) how can every millennials be given the chance?
I know plenty if 40 yo millenials. So I'm glad see the reverse to be true as well.
My concern with many millennials is they communicate by text, email, process tools, etc. and bypass face to face conversations. Get up off your tush and go talk to people. We all sit in open environments so you probably sit 10 feet from the person you’re sending an IM to anyways

@director 1, whatever happened to training?

One word - karma!! 😉
@Ca1 agreed. I've worked with some great ones. But I've also had manu interns and juniors who straight out have told me they want to be CDs and not an ad or cw. Even after I'd explained how it works, they were emphatic about being the exception.
@SC1 I think that's confirmation bias, because I know plenty of non millennials who had that exact same mindset when they were juniors.
