Deloitte’s Diversity & Inclusion group hosted Nicole Hannah-Jones today and it was a goddamn breath of fresh air to hear her speak candidly. Even called the firm out in some places. If you haven’t seen her NYT 1619 project, educate yourselves https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/1619-america-slavery.html
Fellow consultants, I’m struggling and I know complaining about this will only make me look weak but I need to vent. I’ve been working upwards of 60 hours a week since January and I’m tired. If I was doing meaningful work, it would be one thing but most of my days are spent supporting my client with fire drills that end up not mattering. He’s very reactionary and trying to guide him to hold off or think of other approaches doesn’t work. (Cont).
My client in a nutshell.
How do I transition into project management (outside of Deloitte) from advisory? Not loving this job, been here two years.Ultimately would like to incorporate my creative side with project management
The long and the short of it. I was laid off a couple of months ago, the clients on the account I ran loved me. Can I hit the client up about freelance? The non-solicitation part in my severance package mentions something about a year (which hasn’t passed yet), but still I’m no lawyer and it’s mostly mumbo jumbo to me.
Is it doable to job hunt while traveling, or do you suggest I find a local/remote project?
TFW the client takes away your tools written in the contract, but your leadership is dragging their feet on the change order. *wears this to team dinner*
Can you expense mileage when you take public transportation (costs the same as commuting to office) to client’s site?
Hi! I have around 13 months of exp in LTI. My current project assignment gets over by December. And I want to change role after 18 months. Is it a good idea to continue and jump to another project in the middle ? Or its better to sit on the bench until that happens? If latter is the case, how do I ask my manager to be benched after my assignment? I'm not sure how benching works. Do I get salary? Please help me understand
Switching consulting agencies atm. Currently I earn way below average at 42k€/p.a + car. Next week I am negotiating with another company wanting to employ me. I am actually bringing in a customer with a fixed 2 year project @ 1000€ all-in/day rate (5 billable days/week). What salary should I aim for - and what bonuses? I would love something around the market average of 65-75k is it realistic even though I am in my mid 20s?
MBA holders! Do you think it’s worth getting an mba to work in our industry? What about agency vs. client side?
Looking to take advanced ms project 2016 training. What’s the best online courses. Lynda? Recommendations appreciated!
It’s well known that the difference in work culture in Europe vs US is quite different. Can you comment on some of the differences when it comes to work/life balance, competitiveness, client dynamics
Let’s say you sell a 3yr long project in September. Do you put the 3yr project in the CRM or break it down? Breaking down is complicated, but full deal close ruins reporting. Firm can’t decide.
Fishbowl friends! What's the best way to network to get on a new project when I just switched to a new division and don't know many people?
13 people in this room: 2 Change Management, 5 Project/Program Management, 2 Client SMEs, 1 Client IT Lead, 1 ACN Functional Analyst, 1 ACN Solution Architect, and me (Delivery Lead) Kill Me Now
Got 2 offers,1st from British American Tobacco- Planning Expert 10% pay rise and 2nd from small company(focus on data science) 50% pay rise, Data Science Project Goal: to break into MBB or FAANG
What can you actually do to salvage a project going down in flames? I’m a new manager, completely do not have the support I need, and it seems as though every single team/person our team relies on to get things done on time has dropped the ball. All the issues are now coming to us. I don’t have the experience to navigate this all alone, and I am not getting the necessary support as all of my managers are swamped with other (to them, more important) issues at the same client.
Am I crazy for thinking being a mom is harder than working in biglaw? I’m a mid level associate and FTM currently on maternity leave and the amount of sleeplessness over the past few weeks have convinced me my job is a piece of cake in comparison. I’m so overwhelmed.
The hard lessons you learn in the hospital... ALWAYS wear a mask when changing a flexiseal bag or you're going to have a bad day. 💩💩
Naive question. What does it really mean when a recruiter says “[company] is keeping you in view for next year”. The original position was for this year.
Describe your company culture in one sentence.
Need some advice. What arguments would you put forward to make it clear that you want to take up a role that aligns with your profile or career goals. I am being pushed into a SC type to role
Im applying to this startup that has two positions that im really interested in. I already sent my app for one where I think my chances are better. Should I send an email to tell them Im interested in the other position as well, or would this be strange / weird?
What’s a good reason for choosing LEK as a firm? Main draw to me is the no-travel model to be closer to home and parents especially with client travel returning at D but not sure if that’s good enough in the interview versus being set on PE.
What is the most interesting case you have had in the past few weeks? Either COVID related or non-covid related.
Went from a regional firm to a small firm. What’s the best way to get into big 4 or the chances? This will be my third year in audit.
Looking to move to NYC, and also find a new job before I move to NYC. What is the best way to find a new role based out of NYC?
Any insight on getting MBA from mendoza as far as prospects for transitioning into a post-mba strategy consulting role? It’s ranked outside the top 15 but from research seems like it still sends plenty of grads to top consulting firms (not MBB)
As a high performing Tax Senior 2 in financial services, at what % pay raise would you consider switching to industry? I’m asking this cause I don’t even feel comfortable negotiating for this much salary (current + 15%) since there will be so much to learn at the new job. But maybe just impostor syndrome?
Can someone please help me navigate concerns about the vaccine? Literally all I hear from Fox News zombies saying big pharma and Bill gates are pushing the vax for personal profits only and Covid is not that deadly. What has worked with those in the inner network circle? What hasn’t? My pregnant wife who is nurse received both doses and I think a couple relatives believe the baby is going to be a cyborg.
Great vibes with girl after 2nd date, definite potential for more. However, noticed that she adjusted her age by either 1 or 3 years on dating app, and just confronted her about it. She wrote it off due to Covid year, but I find the lack of honesty and real remorse concerning. What would you do?
When should I tell my boss/team that I’m expecting? I’m fully remote and don’t have to worry about “showing” at work, but want to give my colleagues ample heads up without jumping the gun too soon
Considering an influencer diversity role at Marina Maher. It would be a higher role than I have now, but wondering about culture?
If anyone can review my resume and provide some tips that will be truly great. Currently applying for financial analyst job, but no luck so far.
How does EYs senior manager translate into a MBB model? Working alongside an EY SM who thinks they’re a junior/associate partner but whose responsibilities seem to match an EM. Also is it normal for Big 4s to ignore juniors? This SM refuses to listen to anything I say and gets annoyed anytime I speak in a meeting or when I said I was talking to the partner directly - whereas my McK team proactively encourages me too.
