Suggest a 10-15 min one on one with the manager 3x per week. Trust me, you'll get more than 15 mins because the manager probably does have a lot to tell you but sounds like he/she/they have a time management problem. If the person is hesitant to commit, make points about how much more and how much of a better job you'll be able to do with the right information, and also tell the person that you both can move the time if needed and treat it as a trial which can be canceled if it is not working. Once you get on the calendar and get into the rhythm, hopefully the manager will realize how much better this is for you both.

If the M will not give you the time them ask the SC they should be more than happy. If neither will give you the time of day then reach out to SM! Ask for help it is the only way your going to learn

No SC, just me and M. SM is very light touch but yeah you’re right

I agree with the feedback from others. I was in a similar situation my first role. It actually taught me how to be more independent, take initiative, and run effective meetings. You should have clear questions and make strategic guesses where possible so its more of a "how's this so far?" Rather than a "What should I do? Think of this the same way you would approach a case interview. Except now you have time to do industry/client research.

Also helps to create a place either via email or a shared document where you can keep a running list of questions. Easy for them to multitask and answer some questions during or between meetings.

Anyone else tire of the “plant mom” and “dog dad” me too conversation? It seems to be more frequent. For example, company says, “Parents, please share pictures of working from home with your kids during Covid” for a diversity and inclusion project. Undoubtedly someone responds, “what about my plant babies? 🤣”. I don’t want sympathy but I find it childish. Just give us the courtesy of understanding that plants and pets are not the same. Stop “me too’ing”

How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.
