I’m a new hire as a technical architect but I have been staffed on a larger project and delegated a ton of project management work. I have no prior experience in PM and I feel very lost, has anyone been in a similar situation and how did you get better at PM?

PM work is so much easier than tech work. You got this, buddy.

I was responding to the stance that PMO is easier than tech work. For people that dislike working with people, it's not.

Is PM even considered a skill?

After depending on Kyndryl resources for a recent project I found myself asking this same question.

Yes, been there, done it. Your firm probably has some knowledge exchange resources. Go on there and search for PM templates. Create a template with whatever you need to manage and include deadlines. Reach out to all the task owners and get updated and update your PM file accordingly.

I am going into my second year practicing law. I am at a small litigation firm (I would prefer not to give my location but will say that I am not in a big market). I am curious as to what the norm is re: billable hours. My firm only gives credit for hours actually billed to the client. This seems wrong? If a partner cuts my time… or the client refuses to may for some of my time (even if I DID THE WORK)… that time doesn’t count towards my total billable hours.

Transitioned into consulting post-MBA (1.5 years ago) and generally enjoyed the experience. Since I joined my comp has gone up ~13% and I’ve liked my project teams but in my most recent review talk my partner told me he thought I was ready to be promoted and had advocated for me but there was an HR rule against it and I was on-track to be promoted in 6 months. Since then I’ve learned that one of my classmates (started 2-3 months before me due to COVID) was promoted last cycle.

Been working on mostly (about 70%) public sector policy and strategy at Big 4 for most of my career. Often go up against MBB on RFPs and have a decent win rate.
