I've been w my firm for 2 years and haven't met my counselor yet

I dont think experienced hire should matter so much as how long they have been with the firm?

like

My best CC was an experienced hire who always advocated for work-life balance. The other CC's also seemed to have the mentality that "I suffered through it, so now you do too" and just seemed to have a very view on career development.

like

Do you think it makes sense to consider switching? I would probably vet some people and offer an alternative. I know counselor relationship is very important, and since I'm new I'd really like the insight of someone who advanced internally. We are a small group though so I don't want to burn bridges.

What's wrong with experienced hire?

like

I think OP you are just a little too sensitive…you are fine and your counselor is fine as well

like

What does being an experienced hire have to do with this person being able or not able to serve you effectively as a counselor? 70% of our firm hires are experienced hires. Also, how much effort have you expended into meeting your counselor? The relationship ABSOLUTELY matters but I'm confused by the factors you're focused on.

like

Experienced hire or not shouldn't matter. If you only want a campus hire counselor, you are likely limiting your options and potential to have a great counselor-counselee relationship. Also not meeting your counselor is pretty normal, mine has always lived in a different city. All that said, my first counselor from when I originally joined sucked and I am very glad I switched, just make sure you switch for the right reasons.

like

Ok SC1, so maybe more normal than I realize. Still not a huge fan of the experienced hire factor

think about why is meeting that person important. are you not able to make a connection ?

Are you able to foster a connection? Do they have a network within your home office / your desired industry? I joined as an experienced hire and had an absolute dud counselor who nobody knew of. So I switched 1.5 months in. Best decision I've made at the firm. Do what feels right!

What group are you in? What do you feel you are missing?

Also, what level are you?

Also Exp Hire(C), six months in. Counselor lives in a different city so we've never met.

OP- are you a campus hire?

Love my firm, but WFH is brutal and the people I’ve formed connections with have mostly left or WFH 99% of the time which leads to less social interaction with them. My professional life at the moment is far from ideal. I’ve been on quarantine (long story, but a good one) for the last seven years. Royalties from my books don’t pay the bills. My entrepreneurial pursuits remain hampered. For the interim, I’ve been looking for a remote opportunity where I can leverage my skills in marketing, sales, social media, and elsewhere for a decent sum. I have a social media presence which, in recent years, reached millions. There has to be something exciting I can do.

I had a major client interview scheduled for today with a very sr client for potential job- it has taken forever to book. An hour before the meeting my Internet went out. I live in a remote area so I don’t have cell service (my husband was out running errands so no car to drive anywhere). I missed the interview and had to followup when it got back on. We rescheduled for wed but I’m pretty horrified. Sent apologies with weak explanation of Internet. How to handle when we finally speak?

Hi all, I would appreciate your thoughts - I’ve been really struggling to adjust to long-term WFH and just have been extremely unhappy with it (feelings of isolation, burnout, hopelessness). I realize I’m not spending time on commute and such, not wearing uncomfortable clothes, but I’m still really miserable. I feel like most of my daily joy used to come from live interaction with people. I know many of y’all are really thriving on WFH and need your help / thoughts on how best to adjust. TIA!!
