It's totally fine to cry, I often shed some tears and feel lighter. As long as you rise from the ashes and bounce back to work the next day!
It's the stress. This will happen even with awesome people around you, and it's ok. I have cried over a silly reviewer comment. The comment was only a trigger, it was a result of 80 hour weeks, pent up stress and being on the road forever. The fact that I was addressing review comments at 12 am in a random hotel in a random town din help either. Stay strong and make sure you manage the stress well.
Don't bottle it up - very bad. However, I would do it in private and/or with family close friends. Also, why are you so stressed over 11 hour days?
11 hour days on the weekend is not cool. I would talk to your counselor.
11 hrs is the minimum I've done Mon Thu through my consulting career... it's not the hours it's the stress level
@D3 spot on. It's not the hours worked, it's your environment. Douche managers, backstabbing colleagues and clients, unrealistic expectations and zero support. I had this on my first few firm initiatives as a newbie. Hang in there and it will pass. Network with people you get on well with - they do exist!
This too shall pass!
^ weekends included too. My first long hour experience. Will get used to it just got hit with it from left,
The lunatics are running the asylum @D5!
You will grow a thicker skin after a few of those days
working out helps 💪🏿
I feel you. It is much harder when you're not anticipating them. Meditation/guided imagery has helped me to be able to collect myself for a minute during times of intense stress. Let it all out tonight!
I thought it was just me losing my mind. Feels good to know everybody is too!
AML will do dirty things to your soul.
11 hr day = poor management
You are so right D3
My previous AML is not bad, at least the hours are good, team is good too. My current one is back stabbing all the time...
Hey OP, I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. Reminded me of my own start to consulting a long time back. It was hard and it was long days but it never broke my spirit. The decision is yours but I have to say that if gets you to cry it's not worth it. If you've made it here you're smart enough to find alternatives if this is not something you want.
Especially if you make it through a few of these days on a project you hate, 11 hours a day on a project you enjoy will be cake.
I think then you would not fit into big 4 consulting. I have been working at least 12 hours a day for last 8 months.
