I’m in pretty good shape but I haven’t been able to fence for two years because of work. Pretty specific muscles needed. I fenced hard tonight, mostly against teenagers. No, I am not in good shape, especially aerobically. Time for rowing machine and jump rope on the days I’m not fencing (2-3 per week). It will take a couple of months. I’m going to hurt tomorrow. I have a hard time trusting autopay, especially if the autopay is triggered on the due date.

I prefer to hire people with character and grit. Maybe they got a 3.2 GPA because they didn't want to be the smartest in the room, so they took courses so hard that they had some hard-won Cs and Bs, or there was a field they sucked at but were passionate about, so they persisted with it until they got better at it. They know what failure feels like, and how to bounce back until they achieve their goal. I'd take that candidate any day over the 4.0 who's avoided failure all their life.
