I’m a recent grad (2020) working in strategy consulting. I want to pivot to tech (product management) after two years, but feel like it may be harder to enter after the two year mark as I’ll no longer be considered a recent grad. Is that true?

Oh interesting perspective. I would have said the more experience under your belt the better. Go with what you know you need to do.

Yeah I would say think more about what will give you the skills to succeed. Interesting that you're committing to strategy consulting for two years - is it because you're already there and don't want to leave too fast or because it's something you really want to get under your belt? And if you need some training etc in product management and tech I'd start the learning transition now, maybe some online courses.

Yeah it sounds like it's not a worthy thing to tie yourself to. Keep the security of the job while you get yourself transitioning! And if you find one of those programs that's a great idea. Best of luck.

I say for FAANG, yes. I had a similar situation. Their school pipelines are more forgiving than say cold applying as an external FTE.
But I switched to tech right around 2yrs and I found that 2+ or 3+ was the minimum for a lot of roles I was looking around at. I bumped to a Senior title, and took a lot of PM, Analytics, and Product strategy experience with me.

Any recs?

Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.
