I’m a third year analyst in PE in NY and really want to transition to tech, but am having a hard time even landing an interview. I’m getting interviews at financial firms. Any tips on how I should present myself for tech industry finance roles?

Work for a tech startup in a finance function first. Ask to do “whatever is needed”. Have to be willing to take a pay cut and invest in yourself to transition.

Also I assume you want to stay in finance and just work for a tech company right?

If you want to actually “work in tech” operationally longer term, you gotta go take time off and start from the bottom. And just a precaution - there’s a big difference between knowing how to code and being a good programmer. Just like how your excel skills are so much more advanced vs someone learning from Coursera. To be a real engineer you have to get multivariate calculus and linear algebra down pat. Those are key basic building blocks to build structural complexity. Otherwise you’re always going to be a bottom grunt.

Exactly, I’d want to stay in a finance role.

I’m frustrated. I’ve been in the job market for an ungodly amount of time, applying to various companies and have had zero luck.

I’m getting worried nothing will pan out and would really appreciate words of wisdom. Given our current situation, I understand the job market isn’t too hot right now but, are there any companies you’d suggest looking into that are hiring? Ideally, I’d like to work client-facing (sales, BDM, partnerships etc.) please help!

I’m considering applying to a position as Director of Sales Enablement at my current company. I’ve done some basic google searching on salaries and the range is quite large. I have worked 10+ years at this organization with most of it in this group but I know I have more to learn to get the top end of this salary. Is 160k fair? Thoughts?

Is there irony in the fact that HR and leadership of sales organizations ghost candidates? The very people that stress over prospects disappearing turn around and do the same thing to people they've interviewed 2, 3, or more times.

I'm 4 for 4 this month being ghosted for roles that I'm well qualified for and either advanced in the process or told I would be.

This is brutal.
