Same struggle here. I’ve found success with a pen and legal pad next to my desk and just make a quick entry when I’ve completed a task. It was a pain in the ass at first, but it’s become habit now. Also, do what you can to enter all of it into your time tracking software at the end of the day. It’s become something of a ritual for me that marks the end (or at least what should be the end) of the working day.
Just good faith estimate and you’ll be fine
Like AA1, I keep an Excel spreadsheet open at all times and every half hour or hour (or when I finish a task), I enter the time and narrative. At the end of the week I pass it to an admin to enter. I use formulas to auto calculate and helps me track my daily/weekly/yearly progress.
Not sure what billing software you use but I keep PC law open on one of my monitors at all times and just enter things as I go (ie. right after sending an email, hanging up the phone) to avoid having to do it all at the end of the day

Enter it all as you go. Finish the task, enter the time. Simple as that.
I use a spreadsheet. Write matter number, start and stop time and a quick narrative (or words so I can remember what was done). Formulas to calculate the the increment. So when I’m in the middle of something and get a call/email/interrupted, quickly Input it. I know “entering contemporaneously” is highly recommended, or using timers... but I’m just too busy and get pulled in too many directions at once
does your firm not use timesheet software with timers like intapp or Carpe diem? I have a timer ready to click for any new matter I'm staffed on.
