Wear your braids sis!
🗣🗣🗣
I'm sorry you had to ask this...
I’m Nigerian and I’ll tell you, it didn’t even cross my mind that braids wouldn’t be acceptable and I’ve always readily worn those - large or small. I worried more about Afros, locs and twists. Now, I do whatever the hell I want. I’m at an Amlaw 100 firm for reference and moved from an Amlaw 200.
Thank you guys! I was nervous to ask. I just want to be able to be free of judgement when it comes to my hair when in these conservative spaces. It’s already a time demanding industry so protective hairstyle maybe best for those busy days when you don’t have time even for yourself.
Wear your braids, depending on your state having the CROWN act they literally cannot do anything about it. I’ve also found that people tend to be more comfortable with my braids than an afro, but I still straighten for interviews.
I have worn braids during my time at a BigLaw firm (AmLaw 50). It was fine; no issues. If Partners/other superiors do say something negative, be sure to document it.
I wore braids & passion twists all the time when I previously practiced in the Atlanta office of a Big Law firm. No one ever said anything to me about them. Many other paralegals regularly wore braids too.
Not in big law but in house in construction. I’m wearing jumbo knotless braids right now….do you sis they’ll adjust. If someone has something to say ask them if the got silk press money 😐
