Hi Fishes,
How's the joining process in TCS? (is it virtual?)
When will TCS provide the joining letter?
Did someone from BGC team will contact for Address verification/anything else related to BGC?
When will the background check get completed? (How do we know the status of BGC)
Tata Consultancy
Thanks
Thats all kinda expected. Have a good attitude, willing to learn and ask questions. Take ownership of your assignments.
Prior year work papers are your best friend.
Most of the time
Get your cpa out the way
Just stay late and help make your boss’s life easier at any opportunity.
Don’t stay late just because. That is silly
Welcome!!
Simple- Listen, follow directions, and get along as best you can with people. Ask questions, (but not continually the same one). Your job this year is to learn.
Also, don’t believe everything you read on these boards. There is a lot of sound advice here, but also a ton of negativity, and that can be a huge distraction for you. Don’t let it get to you
I'm a second year staff. I know the first thing almost everyone tells you is to follow PY and you will be fine. My advice is do not just follow PY. Ask questions to yourself: why PY did this? Is it still applicable to this year? Is there anything you can do to improve PY workbook? Is there any chance PY was wrong? Is there any new changes this year that you should pay attention to? Use PY as a guidance, do not just copy it. On your first projects, you may not know how to answer these questions, but you will get better over time. Be helpful, be positive, be nice, be skeptical and be curious. Also, google is your friend.
I agree, but don’t just start changing the stuff because you know it’s right. Ask before you change everything. Otherwise the senior will need to spend double the time fixing it. Or the senior will send it back, you will spend more time on it, and then the senior will still have to redo it since you probably don’t know much yet.
No first year associate is expected to know anything (or shouldn’t be expected to anyway). Come in every day with a great attitude, ready to learn, and ask every technical question you might have.
What practice group are you in, and what location?
Just sent you a PM
During team meetings when the partner asks you something DO NOT ask him to repeat it because you were gaming and missed what he said (fun story)
"Sorry, you cut out there for a few seconds. Could you say that again?"

Nearly nothing from school helps on the job. It’s fine, prior year workbooks, do your research before asking questions, and then ask questions in an efficient and organized way
While I do agree with you to some extent and think those tips are great, I really feel my MTax is the reason I’ve done well in PA so far. Tax is definitely something learnable, and it helps to have a loose understanding of something before sitting down and creating it.
That said, I do think OP is expecting higher expectations than will actually be placed on them lol. If they don’t know something, they just have to research until they do.
You will be totally fine!! Just the fact that you are worry about it says a lot! Don’t worry about it just be yourself and try your best! You got this!!
You really don’t need anything you learned in school except maybe how to do a journal entry.
Stay curious and diligent, it seems most of my COVID staff lack those two. Not too keen of staff who would rather get things over with quickly than sit down with me to go over the work and related concepts. I would like to log off too but it's busy season so if you're not willing to learn and apply the knowledge going forward, none of us are gonna have a good time.
And please always take notes unless you have photographic memory.
You will be fine. No one expects u to know anything. So relax and enjoy the experience.
Just know how to use excel formulas and type emails that don’t make you sound like a complete psychopath.
It helps when you step back and realize everyone else starting with you is in the same boat. Nobody is going to expect you to know everything when you start. You will be just fine
First year is almost all about positive attitude and trying to do well on what they give you. They know you’re not gonna know what you’re doing, so just try your best to soak up all the new information 🧽
