I’m all about that work from home life. However it is insulting and unprofessional when a colleague who is in the office blows off a scheduled meeting with you when you are virtual as they bumped into another colleague in the office. Anyone else noticing issues like this now that we are in this hybrid mode. How do you address it?

Your boss is networking and sometimes it happens on the fly. Drumming up clients is a big part of his responsibilities.

If it happened just once, move along. Just means you weren’t your boss’s priority in that moment and/or they lost track of time by being happy to see someone they hadn’t seen in a while. Not a big deal. If it happens frequently, that’s a different story.

IMHO most of the meetings can be just a email or group chat. Believe most of the people blow off meetings because 1) they dont think there is much to contribute from their end 2) no time to unplug between back to back meetings therefore it impacts their mental health . if needed , reschedule, email, escalate! Try to start meeting 5 min late say 9.05-9.30 instead of 9.

I totally agreed with Barclays 1. This person I question is the owner of the scheduled meeting tho and despite my pleas, refuses to to edit said meeting schedule or alter the timing. It’s also my boss so it’s not as easy as clicking decline.

People miss meetings now and then, wfh or not. Some will find an excuse for the oversight. It is unprofessional, but don’t take it personally- it’s his or her mistake. Reschedule.

In that case, yes it’s extra unprofessional and seems your boss doesn’t think the meeting is important. Is he initiating them or are you? Or are these standing weekly meetings? If you have questions maybe best to ask via email. If it’s a standing weekly maybe you can ask if every other week would be more convenient.

Tell me working from bed has been normalized by now. I thought that was the line I would never cross with WFH, but I’ve crossed it. Obviously still take meetings from my desk. This shouldn’t be anything to feel guilty about right? EDIT for context - I still live in a small apartment so there are limited options for where to work besides my desk - and sitting in one place all day is VERY draining - feel like this is probably an issue mostly for younger consultants

Encouraging WFH is not the same as making it mandatory. People who “take the option” of WFH will be frowned upon. Meanwhile “encouraging WFH” alleviates the liability of the agency. Don’t fall for it.
