Start demonstrating how those skills could be valuable to the biz and use that proven value to get the money to learn more. This would mean learning independent of the course first and applying that to your current work. There are a lot of free and cheaper resources to learn those things though, is a $2k course really worth it?

To be clear, that was not a rhetorical question. It absolutely could be worth it! Especially if the company is footing the bill 🤣

If someone on my team asked me for this sort of skills training, I would help them get it. Definitely ask.

Why R and not Python ?

like

Yeah most agencies use R or atleast all the ones I have been at. Long term you will eventually learn both. The important part is just starting with one and sticking with it until you are comfortable.

Create a proposal document of all the new analysis/projects R would allow you to do. Also focus on how R will allow you to automate a lot of reporting. If you spend 10 hours a week refreshing Excels, R will let you do this in minutes after you have the automation I place.

Some big agencies do not have tuition reimbursement benefits and there might also be a checklist as to what qualifies or not. It never hurts to ask. Even if they subsidize a portion of it. Just make sure it’s not like you’re tied to the company for x years if you use the money, unless you want to commit to that. Also make sure to know the logistics as in who will foot the bill, you or them and also when will they reimburse you upfront if you pay it first, after 3 months, 6 months, never, etc. There are caveats so make sure it’s all clear and in writing. But like someone said, present them with what the benefits are and how it will help you and the job/clients/work. On a side note, knowing that this is Data Science course, there’s a lot of information that they will not be able to teach and/or are not industry standard.

Beyond sad that it’s a thing when someone asks their employer for development and credentials. It shouldn’t be, and given that consulting firms are cleaning many agencies’ clocks because of these types of capabilities, it’s ridiculous. You should ask for the learning opportunity to be supported by tuition reimbursement — it shows ambition, commitment to doing better work and with more efficiency, and is a way for the company to invest in keeping you.

Aside all the usual bumfuckery of this Trump ‘interview’, I’m wondering what the hell happened to Maria Bartiromo? I remember her as a non-political, competent financial journalist and reader of the markets on Fox Business. Now she is a propagandist of the Trump campaign. I wonder if she’s disappointed in herself?

This question is on behalf of my friend: Her current package is 2.5lpa from a small company (3yrs exp java spring boot) . She got offer from Accenture of 6lpa (fixed) . After this she had interview with cognizant and asked for package of 7 lpa. When she recieved the offer from cognizant it was of 10lpa fixed. Most interesting part after 2 weeks she got revised offer letter from cogni without any discussion of 16lpa with 1L joining bonus. How can we analyse and suggest her regarding offer.

Just moved to a city I don't quite like for an industry job (I like the job a lot), my goal is to move back to my old city to get together with family and friends. I would like to stay in the current company for 6 months before requesting the transfer, should I secure an offer first just in case the transfer request did not go through? Or start interviewing after the denied request?

Q for the people that like WFH and never want to go back - what is your living situation? I hate WFH and can’t wait to be back in the office, so curious if other people have adapted better or if their environments are just more conducive to being successful (house with home office and family vs being alone in a 1BR apartment).

what's the comp level at A&M and AlixPartners for restructuring in London? (at new Senior associate level at A&M and equivalent in Alix) Heard that A&M bonus is based on billing, but how much do people usually get? And how much flexibility do you guys get to work on different type of projects? (for example will you be able to work across creditor advisory or operational restructuring etc ) (considering leaving pwc for more money)

I’m due to get the vaccine tomorrow and feeling under the weather today with some cold like symptoms (fatigued, slightly sore throat, slight muscle aches). I often get these symptoms right before my period, which is scheduled to arrive in the next couple of days, so could be that, but I also don’t want to risk (i) getting anyone sick at the vaccination clinic or (ii) getting the vaccine if I’m actually sick. Would you postpone?

I’m so sick of politics and people politicizing things that don’t need to be. This is the perfect time for a new political party to come out called the “I hate politics, let’s just” party (pun intended). Instead of blue or red it’ll be colorless. It’ll just include normal f-ing people who meet in the middle to agree on things and avoid drama. People will stop posting polarizing political posts with misinformation, and just post about normal things. Illegitimate news outlets will have less fuel.
