Love making to the final round with the hiring manager and then being told that ‘I don’t have the depth of experience that the role called for’. I told everyone that area wasn’t my expertise and was told that it wasn’t a problem. Way to waste my time. 🙄

I am considering leaving my current firm to go in-house for better hours (I love my firm but I think I have burned out.) However, after some digging, the in-house position seems pretty busy also and I’d likely be taking a pay cut of approx. $15-20K. Any thoughts on whether this is a worthwhile change? Any questions I should be asking about the potential new company to assess whether their definition of busy is different than my firm’s definition of busy?

I am a software development project manager at a 60 person company but manage 13 developers. I currently make a $75k salary — based on research it looks like I should be paid just over $100k but plan to ask for $90k. Any insight as to if this is a reasonable ask?

I am trying to set up my solo practice with no experience. It's a long story but...I was in the military, got out, went to law school on GI Bill while supporting a family, and poof here I am: old and working a full-time job completely unrelated to law. Where would you begin if you were going solo, had no database of documents, no experience, etc.? I graduated top of my class in 2 years (had to...had a family to support, needed to work) and am now getting my Tax LL.M from the NYU Executive program.

Hi. I’ve been working in group homes for eight years and I’m looking to transition out of the field. I am hoping to at least maintain my current pay and have similar benefits, but I’m at loss as to what to do. I have a lot of life experience but no degree and I’m 50 years old. My partner has, for the last 3 years, been the co-head of a business unit within an investment bank. Six months ago, the role of sole head of the business unit was advertised, interviews took place and after a lengthy process, the decision has been made to appointed my partner as the head, but no change the job grade!
