I think I am about to be going through a divorce. My husband and I have been "in the thick of it" for almost a year and the last couple weeks have shown me that things are not getting better. I think I'm at the end of my rope. I was having concerns 3 yrs ago, but really was able to confront issues this year. We've been married for 6 years, together 9, and have a 2 year old. I'm 30 years old. My family isn't super supportive. I'm nervous, scared, worried, all the things.

How often are you tasked with dealing with administrative and commercials in your in house role? Lately I have been receiving loads of commercials and constantly asked for summaries etc; however, this seems like something a contract manager or specialist should be doing. Also, I have been asked to update reports dealing with commercial values now, which again seems out of the scope of my role…

Does anyone else feel like people are inflating their salary numbers here or are including stock when asked about base +bonus? I’m currently F10 and have interviewed at several big tech companies in the last year before I accepted this job. I am interviewing for a few in house roles, coming from another in house role. I have good credentials and experience, but the company I’m currently at has had a bad couple of years and doesn’t have the best reputation in the marketplace right now. Will I be judged by this in interviews? And what is the best way to acknowledge the company’s obvious less-than-stellar reputation without it seeming like all Im trying to do is jump ship?

Do your “years of experience” reset when you go in-house?

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

I haven’t gotten a single nibble on my remote in-house applications. Are there certain states that living there would make me an automatic no? Entered to the company as its first in-house counsel

The legal issues were previously handled by the CFO with help of outside counsel. 1st year was hard because he was territorial about legal matters, but I reported directly to the board so it wasn't a true issue

2nd year: The CEO retires, and the new one decides to put me under the CFO in the organigram. Now I'm back to square one bc this guy cuts me off any relevant issue!

Managing people seems like the only way to avoid an early career plateau. If you’re managing a team, why do you think you were given the opportunity over others? Has anyone been hired to a new company as a first time manager? Or did you work your way up to managing counsel at one company?

Just received an in house offer for a financial company. Been in house at a different company for a couple years, however, the offer is 40% more then what I make now and hybrid (2days a week in office). Just hesitant to accept as I’m comfortable where I’m at but this is a $60k increase in pay. Hours seem to be 9-5:30/6, no weekends. Should I leverage the offer with my current company? I did that last year with another offer and they did match. I don’t. Think they will match but somewhat close.
