I’m an Audit S1 and I am looking to work in Forensic accounting at a Big 4 and eventually the FBI (my dream job). Does anyone have advice on switching from Audit to Forensics? I’ve seen formal rotations offered for Deal but at my firm they don’t offer that in Forensics. Anything helps! Thanks

A lot of Forensics work is based around data analytics these days so getting some certifications in analytics or related material is likely to help you show the skill set that Forensics teams are often looking for. Additionally, getting a CFE is definitely a good step to look more attractive. Forensics does often prefer those with audit experience so that is definitely a plus in your corner as well.

You'll get staffed on something on an as needed basis and they'll try to match skills you have coming in. Then networking and finding engagements is important and you can definitely move around between all the areas of work for a while. EY specifically doesn't make you specialize per se until about late senior early manager area

Similar-ish boat. Senior 1 in Internal Audit here and I’m only getting interview requests for forensic experienced associate roles. The title change doesn’t bother me and the salary is slightly more than I make now (due to COVID raises), wondering if it’s worth it to hold out for a senior role.

Nice! Are you pursuing through LinkedIn?

I honestly would settle for an experienced Forensics role. So far I have only been in contact with recruiters offering forensics regarding family litigation and insurance claims which isn’t really what I am looking for.

Honestly, my experience was tough within the firm. I was audit at EY and am now forensics at Deloitte. I was met with so much red tape at EY when I tried, and finally when I was put in touch with the right people that wanted me then HR got upset bc I was “cutting the line”!? Whatever that means.

Even if there isnt a formal rotation you should reach out to your talent team and ask for an informal one, we do that at EY at lot and I’ve had some audit people cycle through, some stay

Network with your local office forensic team. We’ve had folks from other practices do 3-6 month rotations and some have joined us full-time.
