I’m an industrial engineer. My job responsibilities align with industrial engineering perfectly. My HR guy is insisting on calling me an “engineering coordinator.” I hate that. Is “coordinator” added to your title a good or a bad thing? Because I’m not sure I like it.

Ideally no, the coordinator should not be added, especially if it bothers you. You can ask the human resources person to give you the title that corresponds to you.

like

In my case it does not bother me how they place my title, as long as they respect my functions and do not add something that does not correspond to me, I have no problem whatsoever.

like

Being a “coordinator” may imply supervisory responsibilities. Maybe that helps you down the road with your resume? Just thinking out loud.

like

It would sound like that, but OP made it seem like it's purely a change in name without added responsibilities. Seems a bit odd that they would insist on this imo

like

Would the name change come with increased responsibilities? Is HR just trying to change your name for aesthetic reasons or something?

like

My HR guy is a douchebag, so it doesn’t come with increased anything.

I mean, are you coordinating anyone or anything? The "coordinator" title might help you land a higher paying role in the future, even if you don't necessarily like the sound of it

like

Have they provided any reasoning as to why they're so adamant about adding this to your title?

like

Not that I know of. I don’t coordinate the engineering, I do it haha.

I would say do not add coordinator. It’s not the same as a lead or facilitator for a project role. I feel like coordinator is reducing the role and with IE it’s already a field where everyone thinks they can do the job. Normally I see the title coordinator attached to “project coordinator” and they work under a project manager. They gather details and create presentations they don’t see the project management.

Probably the antithesis of this bowl - but need some advice. This is for a house in a Southern metro. Built in 1960s completely remodeled in 2000s with some very recent additional remodeling of kitchen and bathrooms. Well kept house. The price will be nearly $1M, the same as something built in 2010+ with similar square footage (because a lot of the price is the lot, its a super expensive zip). Should I steer clear because of the age? Will it cost a ton in maintenance and utility bills?
