I'm an introvert and it takes a lot for me to open up. But I often see people at work being super social and just getting along with everyone and it makes me feel like there's something wrong with me.

Everyone is faking it. I know I do.

But how? I've tried and I just come off as awkward. I'm also so nervous when it comes to talking to higher ups.

Ugh we’re the same person. Idk how people do it

Me too! And I have to REALLY fake it with coworkers. It is so exhausting and draining on top of actual work :/ glad we’re not alone though!

You're not alone

Thank you M1 :) I really appreciate it

Read traits of extroverts then apply it. They thrive off of attention, introverts don’t. Read a book about conversations, try Conversation Handbook. It’ll help you, I promise.

It’s okay to be an introvert, it’s genetics. But don’t let that hinder you from chatting people, even if you do it for a short amount of time.

Also, you mentioned fear of higher ups. I have that issue, that comes down to anxiety. Your brain is probably on full alert because you don’t want to make a mistake or say something dumb, which prevents you from having a normal convo.

And yes, anxiety is the main culprit for a lot of people, including myself. For that, apply CBT exercises. This will allow you to catch yourself having negative thoughts (automatic thoughts in your subconscious) which usually will send you down a rabbit hole without you even knowing why. Meditation is key for this.

Best of luck.

Nothing is wrong with you ❤️ You just live in a western society and work in an industry that values extroverts. Read into personality psychology and the value that introverts bring to the world/workplace. Very validating.

2. OMSCS/OMSA (possibly work FT aswell)
3. Work FT and find out what I really want to do

Context: Going into final year of MIS degree with CS minor at UGA. Really enjoying classes on hard skills, haven’t taken all the business side classes but so far not as interesting. Interning at KPMG for data analytics rn, haven’t gotten much useful experience. Family may have financial hardship soon.
