It may depend on the specific practice area, location, and firm culture you find. I did this last year as a 40 year old and am having a great experience, if that helps. Bay area, laid back firm management, public agency law (I transitioned from government.)
I joined biglaw as a sixth year at age 37...so you're good! Any firm that has a strict line about ages/experience probably isn't where you want to work anyway.
So I am talking about older. But I want to note something here: do you think a man would even worry about his age in such a situation? I highly doubt it
Well I’m out to try to change that. First question: I went grey over the past year and a half. I love it! I can dye it now to get the job. Should I?
