I’m annoyed. I work directly with executives in a variety of capacities and regularly have to push back on them when they step outside of our normal practices on the people side. When that happens, I usually let my boss know on the side so they are informed and am often told “you’re doing the right thing, handling this well.” However, if the fight is brought directly to my boss on the same issue, they more often than not cave and support the exec. Am I out of line being angry about this? WWYD?

That is quite unfortunate on your part, even if you are doing the right thing in favor of your boss and the company as a whole. But you are not out of line for being angry and upset about it. I would be too.
