Left from public accounting to industry about a month ago. Seems like our tax department cant unplug and I'm jumping the gun to be worried? I thought I was gonna have more life work balance here. So far I've seen my manager come online for video calls for during two of his "PTO" days, he's sent emails at 10pm, 10:30pm. Other managers also sending emails during "PTO".

When should I give my notice? I’ll be starting my new job in mid January. Do people usually give more than a 2 weeks notice during holiday season? I’m a 2nd yr. I also have 10 days of PTO that I’ll lose Dec 31st if I don’t use it!

Too soon to book a Christmas/New Year vacation abroad? Think we will be vaccinated by then?

I hear of UX/Product designers that make 120k out of school and recruiters are throwing out numbers even greater than that. No visibility into what my coworkers are making so I’m here.

I have 8 years of design experience in addition to design education, 3 of those years are in UX/Product design. I’m making $102k, med/vis/dental, up to 6% 401k match, unlimited PTO and options worth ~10k vested in a couple years. Bonus last year was ~10%. NYC startup.

If you put in your 2 weeks and some of that time falls during the holiday week, does that company still pay you for the those weeks or would they exclude the holidays?

Hi everyone! Hoping to get your advice. I’ve been working at an ad agency for 4 years doing digital strat. Couple weeks ago I got an offer from a GR + Comms firm looking to expand their digital practice (GR not a typo, my background is in politics and I took time off recently to work this cycle.) I’ve worked WITH comms before but never technically done it, just brand strategy. Has anyone had experience with a similar transition, or any advice you can share to help me succeed? thank you! ❤️

Does anyone find life as an attorney completely unbearable? I do civil litigation and I constantly have that “it’s finals week/month” feeling with constant impending doom every which way I look, and I find it hard to escape from that even when I’m on “vacation.” My only hobbies are the gym, and cars, and I don’t even really make enough money to support the latter. Sometimes I feel like I need that shrink from Office Space to hypnotize me out of my misery

I took my first day off in 2 years to take my son to the beach. A partner forced me to work all Father's day on a truly unnecessary project due to his own neuroses. Next day I call because our issue is resolved. I'm making a sand castle when I called and he proceeded to berate me about how the problem was my fault (it wasn't). I’m experiencing a lot of miscommunication personally and at work. Law schools in Toronto - I am currently working as a Senior Auditor at EY & finished my CPA modules in less than 12 months & successfully passed CFE, September 2021 (Fasttrack) while working full time. I am really interested in getting into a top law school here in Toronto but unfortunately I had a low CGPA (3.15) from undergrad due to some unfortunate incident, mostly impacted my grades. I strongly feel i can score 170+ on LSAT; question DO I EVEN STAND A CHANCE TO GET INTO ANY LAW SCHOOL

Anyone have any suggestions on good thoughtful questions to ask in a screener? Generally, not practice/firm specific. I always thought a good one was “how does the firm help associates grow their book of business?” and “is there formal/informal mentoring and training for associates?”

Do folks provide opposing counsel a courtesy copy of motions before or after filing?

My spouse has spent 4 yrs in major market biglaw. She has always been interested in public policy/government work and went to law school to do that work. After 2016 election, left DC and did corporate. Now she wants to go back and has had several interviews over the past 5 months with a major DC law firm/lobbying firm. Final round interview in Dec went really well. No response for a month, no response to follow up emails. Is this just holiday delay or should she consider this opp dead?

How bad is Big Law and why does it seem like many associates are unable to set boundaries? I’ve read comments on here of associates consistently billing 12+ hour days. How do you do that, short of lying/padding, or producing subpar work?

Are firms amenable to waiving length of service requirements for paternal leave as part of the offer letter? Not currently needing leave, but possibly in 9ish months, and I’ve seen offers with one year requirements before eligibility for paid leave.
