TMT, better to have consulting+industry experience than just consulting.
You at t3 now and want to start over at 26 at t2? Even for mbb that is debatable. Your peers will be 22, and the post mba associates will be your age esp the direct promotes. What firm are you at now? Why woudlnt t2 consider you for post mba level? I think 3 years at entry level t3 and 2 years at entry level t2 looks terrible for mba, shows no progression. Im at a t2 and trust me it aint all that
Coach
Yeah, definitely don’t move to the T2. It will look terrible on your resume imo
S& is not tier 2. Just cuz we got acquired by a tier3 firm doesn’t mean we have become tier2. We do the same work ( if not better) that MBB do and have same (if not better) quality of people. LEK and OW are not in our league. So please refrain from putting us in the same category
Your post is cringe C3, let me tell you from a client perspective S& is not MBB and I would not pay the same rates as MBB
Why would you take an entry level role? How is regressing in your career going to help you in the long run?
TMT company - diversify your experiences.
TMT. Way too many consultants trying to get into top bschool programs.
MBA apps and interviews are all about your story, so what would your story be around jumping to an analyst role at T2? Imo I’d go with the TMT role, who cares about the prestige of your colleagues, you can spin your own story their and are differentiated from an only consulting background

@D1/PWC1, the background of other folks in that “Senior Analyst” role in TMT aren’t nearly as impressive as the ones I’ve found on the team I’m mapped to at the T2 strategy firm. Getting the offer at the T2 firm also required 15x more work with casing, finding it difficult to turn down after hours poured in😭.
Staying at your current firm is better than taking the T2. You’re taking a step back in title after 3 YOE which is a big red flag outside of MBB.
Take the tech job. Tech is hot, consulting isn't quite as hot. Plus, when you apply to bschool, you will stand out much more as an applicant from spotify or some other tech firm vs being yet another consultant.
I think SNAP is probably the way to go
I'm in a very similar position right now. 26, app to MBA in 2 years, 3 YOE EYP.
I chose to jump into industry with the MBA in mind. I think its a better story (i wanted to see the whole process of strategy->implementation->new operation, bla bla)
Also, you get the consulting background without competing with consultants in the admissions process.
Thats what I think (even discussed it with my mentor and the MD before making the decision)
I’m just starting to think about MBA. This is helpful. A couple questions (1) What kind of industry jobs do you think help the MBA story? (2) if going to industry, what do you plan to use the MBA for? Where would you go post-MBA?
Lol lots of t2 guys can't make it to m7. Plus it's not like it's mbb
Not true. Vast majority of our scholars go to M7.
But frankly, I went to an M7 and don’t think the experience and job prospects are necessarily much better at M7 vs duke/Ross/Yale etc.
I would do TMT. Little weird to lump Bird in with Apple, Spotify and Snap. I'd be hesitant about Bird after their layoffs at the start of quarantine, but with 3 yoe I wouldn't want to completely start over at entry level. Probably easier to have a story of increasing leadership for MBA apps at a startup though
I thought it was a bit of an odd cluster of TMT...!
As others have said, definitely DON’T TAKE the entry level job after 3 years of working.
That said, if your goal is HSW, it’s important what this tech role is too. Is it sufficiently “impressive” for HSW (because some roles aren’t)?
What roles in your knowledge are impressive enough, and which aren’t?
TMT
TMT all the way - then every consulting co. Regardless of tier will be eager to have you!
