Agreed. You’re likely to have a couple leave to go in-house, move to another firm, or leave practice entirely during the 7-10 years it takes to make partner.
I think it depends on how big your firm is. My fall starting class (2017) was around 12 and I think less than half are left 4 years later. Some have been "replaced" because the firm needs mid levels, so I'm not so surprised your firm hired a bunch the same class year if a substantial number had left and needed replacing. Better question is how large are the partner classes each year? If you're not lock step then not necessarily everyone makes partner the same time even if everyone makes partner

Equity, income, and of counsel.
Agree with the others. To put the point a slightly different way, consider flipping the situation - they only hire one in that class year and after 3 years that person decides they no longer want to do biglaw and quits. Now what?
